gee I don't think that is at all what he meant.
the extreme right want a enforce a bill that would define rape as only that if it was forcible violent type..[/quote]

Well, where do I start. This whole thing is absurd. And its hard to tell how I fell about this, other than WOW. I am bout to be blunt and vulnerable here.....Being a product of rape myself, I guess that one could call me a poster child for abortion. Ironically I am pro-choice....as my mother chose to have me. This is something that I have had to come to terms with in the 27 years I have walked this planet. Ive known the truth since i was 7, the age that I started asking questions about why everyone else has a daddy and I did not. I can empathize with the notion that a woman should not have to carry a child that was concieved from rape, and I don't want to say that my mother's choice was easy (there was no morning after bill back then, kinda scary for me now to think that one little pill could have prevented my life). Glad that the resource is available now, it is painful to be in this world with the knowlege that my mother was raped and from that awful act of violence came ME. But I am alive. SOOO according to Akin, my mother's body should have shut down this conception and I should not be here. This is my life and its not a joke, I have absolutely no respect for this ignorant guy. Its like saying, nope there was conception---must not have been rape. Well I am here, Im alive. And I don't appriciate this guy implying that my mother was not raped because I am here.Nothing said what a waste0

Please... in medieval times 'surgeons' also dispensed 'cures' (or avoided dispensing certain 'cures') following your star sign. Disease was caused by sin, demons bad smells and even the jewish people. They weren't called the dark ages for nothing... On the other hand, muslims were way ahead... but I don't think Akin would refer to them....
My daughter studied all of this in her history classes when she was 14... Surely, a supposedly educated congressman would know more than 14 year olds.0 -

gee I don't think that is at all what he meant.
what do you think he meant?
and maybe not this kind of rape given this comment ...
Akin's earlier comment that he would like to ban the morning-after pill because he believes it is “a form of abortion, and I think we just shouldn’t have abortion in this country,” and his concerns that a 1991 anti-marital rape law in Missouri might be used “in a real messy divorce as a tool and a legal weapon to beat up on the husband.”

again looking into the man not agreeing with his words
so far I haven't heard him define legitimate yet...
I'm not holding my breath.
Its a good thing we have freedom of speech so our elected officials can put their foot
in their mouths
otherwise we might never know or understand exactly who they are.0 -

Would you be as understanding if he said women should be shunned during their periods or stoned to death if they cheat on their husbands? These are other medieval beliefs.
than those scenarios you gave as those scenarios are proposing the violence and banning
of a group of people.
why can't you just say what he said was wrong? if you say something bad about the tea baggers or the republicans donald trump isn't going to come to your door and fire you.but we're on the precipice of that actually happening

I think we both interpreted his words the same. That's why I am so offended by what he said. I agree with you that it helps to know exactly who our elected officials are. He's painting a very clear picture of himself.

Think? Obviously he seems to be totally ignorant and uneducated on the subject. A sad state of affairs if there are people that can vote in such a person for a role where he/she would be expected to contribute to policy.
And referring to an article regarding medieval medicine as a 'source' for his 'fact's is not much better.0 -
excuse me while I go and consensually go and get run over a semi trailer.. I'm done. I can't even believe that this is a discussion about right and wrong.. we are all adults and we know what he said was wrong so lets not think of it as any less or more then it is.. he was wrong and he even said he misspoke

This true for my eldest sister who chose to have her baby girl 44 years ago.
When you understand this choice, can know and love the person ...
it brings such joy. I commend your mothers strength and wisdom, as I do my big sisters.0 -
you can’t be this ignorant and be able to put on shoes0

comebackgirl wrote:There is no consensual rape, just like there are no consensual muggings, robberies, physical assaults, etc. As I said before, rape is about a lack of consent, which may or may not include physical violence.

The law case here overturned conviction after a young man was imprisoned
on just this and often the cases don't go to court because of the same reason.
It was consenting so no case they knew a jury would not convict.
I know in my teens I was consenting like many girls, that is not rape.
And yes he is thanks to freedom of speech.0
