This what he means by legitimate rape,

Please read the origin of the his beliefs in the link I posted.
I disagree with "shutting one's mouth" as you say because I believe in the basic right
to freedom of speech in our great country and also the consequences that goes with that.
there is no scientific basis for his beliefs. he is passing this off as proven science. please stop defending him for doing that.
He is giving his opinion not passing anything off...

I understand where his statement comes from though I do not agree with it.

I believe he has a right to speak and will take the consequences for that.

I was thinking the same thing. I was also shocked that she was suggesting that those of us who are baffled as to how he felt it was ok to say those things have "blue bias blinders" and are just shocked because we're democrats.

Which I guess proved "democrat" means "not a moron" in this case.
What was surprising is that people did not consider his definition of legitimate rape
and jumped to a conclusion I did not at all.

Again not defending understanding not condoning or agreeing.

Yes I do believe it was ok to say those things ...it's his beliefs.

One would think you would understand that.

I understand the mechanics of getting pregnant, the hows and the whys,
    some do not.

This man believes that under the great stress of rape, when in the form of an assault,
the woman's body would not allow a pregnancy. The statistics to support this, either for or against,
are hard to prove as so many rapes go unreported.

yeah well I haven't got time for people who believe in things that have been proven wrong again and again and in the process seem to alienate a whole bunch of people. Our politicians have got a lot of power over us small people and shouldn't they make sure what they say in public is correct information? They have a lot of influence.. hence tea baggers believe Obama is Muslim (therefore he shouldn't be president). This was an irresponsible comment.

rape isn't about force it's about consent and consent only.
Yes are you contradicting yourself? :? I think that is exactly this mans thought
but not necessarily defined within the law.

I believe rape is also force not just consent.

Again these are beliefs, opinions, and a smart voter sees this and does not take it as fact.[/quote]

I don't see any contridictin.. please explain.. the red highlights aren't related at all. One if a definition of rape and the other is taking about a politicians responsibility with so much power...

lastly, I have a problem with your use of consensual or statutory rape definition.. if they are of a certain age they can't give consent no matter if they don't say no, or if they say yes, or if they make the first move... it's all rape and shouldn't be split into different definitions.
oh boy are you one of those? :?

tell that to the young man of eighteen who just made love to his future bride who is 16...
yes in the eyes of the law true... in the heart of young woman's body ... not so much so.

Yes I'm one of those people..

well if you ARE ONE OF THOSE people who want to redefine the laws of adulhood and make it legal to have sex with anybody then jebus help us.

BTW in NJ a 18 year old can have sex with a 16 year old unless they are a teacher, family member or some authority figure.
I'm not sure what our laws are on statutory rape here in Georgia.
I think a young man of 18 though went to prison for 8 years or something ridiculous
and was finally let out. He had sex with his 16 year old girlfriend.
He was also a rising high school sport star. His life ruined.
What makes you think I would change the laws?

I was only attempting to interpret this mans words and opinion/beliefs.

There was a school teacher who did just this,
he spoke on his own time, on a social media site against a group of people.
We had a thread, I support freedom of speech.

Rape is about a lack of consent. There are a lot of factors that may impact someone's ability to consent, including the use of force, the use of substances or other factors that may render someone mentally incapacitated, one's age or someone having authority over someone of a certain age. They're all "legitimate rape." In fact someone who is assaulted by someone they know may suffer more chronic PTSD.

But you're not only defending his right to say it you also defended the belief itself, offering sources on why he feels this way.

I would be understanding in that that is his opinion but his opinion here is very different
than those scenarios you gave as those scenarios are proposing the violence and banning
    of a group of people.

    +1

Aren't the majority of rapes in the Western world by someone known to the victim? Rape is rape... 'legitimate'

About consent (or lack thereof), power, authority.

free speech is a myth ... we do not have it ...

making this an issue of free speech is absurd ... this is about a person running for elected office who is ignorant on a key issue that he is campaigning on ... dude didn't get caught being a dumbass on some topic he isn't supposed to know ... he got caught citing false information on a key issue of his ... which is critical in this period of misinformation ...

I agree it is not about free speech but one persons belief and opinion that he gave and will suffer the consequences for.
