    I've been watching every evening....but I have a question.
how is gymnastics and diving olympic sports ?
they are both "judged sports" no clear winner or looser other than a few judges
giving a opinion, I am happy for the people that worked hard to make the olympic teams and made it
    but really what's next..spelling bee's (I'd never make that team  )
I always thought that competetive sports in a olympic venue should have clear winner that the viewer
could could determin with no doubt in mind (other than a photo finish)

the BMX racing is coming up soon if ya'll get a chance to watch it's pretty cool
keep your eye on Nic Long for the USA along with David Herman and you Auzzies
look out for Sam Willabee this guy is a rocket.
all the Bmx riders involved in the olympics have made their place in the games
with hard work, blood and broken bones, they deserve these races as much as
any other athlete there, this is only the second time for BMX in the olympics and it is slated
for 2016 also and hopefully my son will be there.

    Godfather.

I like some of the stuff, but I was wondering the same thing the other day Godfather.
I was watching the USA guys choke at gymnastics.
Some guy got on that pommel-horse and was swinging all over the place. Legs flying all over --I have no idea how they judge that stuff. They gave him minus points because his legs were ahead of his body. Or was it behind? Silly. But when they run and do flips I am amazed at their athleticism. But look at his big toe, its out of place! Minus points! and no soup for you!

I definitely appreciate the skills involved - some like gymnastics (though subjective/judged, as Godfather pointed out) are just entrancing...but yeah, really haven't searched it out.

(kinda prefer watching the winter sports anyway)

So last night you couldn't tell that the Chinese Divers were clearly way better than the rest of the field and that the American women were the Gold medal winners above all the rest

I get the gymnastics and diving because that shit looks hard to do. You HAVE to be in great physical shape to pull off some of the stuff they do (try doing an Iron Cross or a tripple somersault off the high dive... not easy).
    ...
But... What about Skeet Shooting? Is that really a sport? I mean, yeah, I fully understand that there is a great amount of skill involved... but, is it athletic (i.e. sport)?
Because, i bet that 5 time Gold Medal winner would STILL score 5 Gold Medals even if she was a 2 pack a day smoker. Same goes for archery. They could even mount ashtrays to the bows if they wanted.
    ...
And what about the horse stuff? The horse does all of the work and doesn't get diddly squat. Especially that horse dancing shit.

No, actually I don't. I used to but each year the barrage of commercials kept getting worse.

acyually I went to bed before the gold was handed out but I am superized that china did not get the gold but there you have it...it's a judged sport, not by the viewers and no clear line drawn of win or loose,so you put the confused icon after your post like I supported the disisson for who got the gold when infact I had no idea who got the gold till you told me...but now that you mention it YEAAAAH USA ROCKS !!!!

I had the same questions. The other day I had a good discussion with a friend on what constitutes a sport and what constitutes a game.

The Olympics are not for sports fans, but mostly for people who enjoy pagentry, personal stories and hoopla... not actual sports.
    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
