Why hasn't PJ ever played in Alaska ?

Good strong thread here. You know, Juneau is amazing, but logistically a little hard to get in and out of for a band requiring 4 to 5 semi loads of gear- especially since there is no roads in or out! On the other hand, some of the most beautiful days of my life have been in Alaska. If PJ needs a cause, there is always ANWAR...
I support the motion and raise you two salmon!0 -
SMOKE - Glad to see the thread is still garnering attention. I had a dream about this the other night, no shit. Maybe something to share in a future post...
Logistically it wouldn't be too bad... they could use the ferry system, hit some towns in Southeast AK on their way to Anchorage. Fuck, why not have PJ play the summer solstice, a 2 hour acoustic set, 3 hour regular set, and encores til it gets dark!!!
Tis a federal crime to have green, but you're pretty hard pressed to get in to much trouble for having pot. Just don't get caught driving and don't have your shit in more than one container. 4 ounces dry and 5 plants growing by state law. Darkness that refuses to come in the summer... Mountains in the backdrop, ocean somewhere not far behind... PJ, break some more ground and get your asses up here!!!Trading magic for fact, no tradebacks... So this is what it's like to be an adult...0 -
BTW- Alaska is a great band if no one here has heard of them. You can't go wrong with Rust and Cyanide off of Emotions or Through the Years off of Rescue Through Tomahawk!0

thanks everyone for the great replies.
heck yeah Animal i will continue to plug Pearl Jam in Alaska. for many reasons.
1 ) They never played here in the bands history. i've done a lot of research on this. the only gig they had planned back in 92 was canceled for unknown reasons.
2 ) They are Americas Band. & if they are Americas band then they should play Every State !
3 ) Logistics : getting into & out of Juneau is a bitch. but not so in Anchorage & or Fairbanks.
4 ) We are a Big State with a Small population. & doesn't PJ like to play small venues ? hint hint !
5 ) as to where & when . the middle of summer isnt recommend , the Mosquitoes willl eat us ALIVE ! But late summer into early fall , & we always have our state fair then & it is an awesome time to see an outdoor show. in the winter we do have the Carelson center here in Fairbanks .
theres nothing better then partying in the Midnight Sun..

The perfect opener for PJ's first show in Alaska would be 1/2 Full...
Snowcapped mountains, torquoise rivers, and sandwiched in between Pearl Jam and EV slamming away, "The elemeeeeents they speak... to me".
THAT would be my 3 second moment of perfection! Keep the thread running folks... CheersTrading magic for fact, no tradebacks... So this is what it's like to be an adult...0 -

Hey, I'm in. We love Alaska. My mother-in-law moved to Homer at age 73, not knowing a soul. It is without a doubt the most beautiful place. We've been all over, except the interior. Like others have said, the weather is more extreme in a lot of other places they have played, and the logistics of Hawaii do seem to be as, if not more, difficult. But hey, we do know how they like to surf, and I've seen people surfing in Homer. I wonder if they know that? Ok, so you have to wear a wetsuit. I also like the environmental angle. Definately need help on that issue."I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0

Just to bump this because I would love to visit AK and see PJ. Check out the associated press article by Jeannette J. Lee "Great waves, cold water attract surfers to Alaska." Outside magazine named Yakutat, AK as one of the top 5 surf US surf towns. I'm not making this up!"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0

Heh, I was just about to mention the surfing angle. I grew up in a small town outside of Anchorage. Alaska is the promiseland, and I can tell you if Pearl Jam ever did play there, they'd go back.
It will never happen though, for the same reason no other band heads up there. Simply too far away for ONE show to justify all the travel costs (not even 750,000 live in the entire state). In my whole time growing up, I can remember Metallica coming up once to the Sullivan Arena, other than that a lot of off-road racing and WWF!!!! Wasn't able to see my first PJ show till '98 in fricking Albuquerque, NM!!!!!!
But hey, I'll sign the petition. And you'd all be welcome over for some smoked halibut...peace."I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club."0 -

I don't know shit about promoters and how a tour is developed.... but couldn't you get some type of an "official" packet from a promoter up there and send it to PJ management? Might help.....
.... or I might be talking out of my asswishlistfoundation.org0 -
Bumpbumpbump.
I'm not American but I know how smokeabud feels, having never had the band near my back garden (while I knew they existed, that is).
So yeah, bump.Too many cowboys, not enough indians, so just go ape shit!
I may be boring but at least I'm not Jack fucking Johnson.
TV is such shit; let's go outside and ride bicycles, right now!
