sshhh, tell no one

but i have been staying inside
trying to think outside
of a box
that was built by things that came in boxes

i had been waiting
for the fall
to bring death and thus
new life to my surroundings
like a kaleidoscope
shattering on my front lawn
and being blown down my street
and floating aimlessly
like children do

for white clouds and for blue skies to go away so i could feel validated in my empty sadness

but when i was a child
my brother said
"the usefulness of a cup
is its emptiness"
so i punctured holes in all my cups
to keep them useful

and when i was even younger than that
i would have believed
in anything
at the art gallery

but let's keep these things
between us
