Why is Binaural Vinyl is the most expensive studio album?

Does anyone know?
Was it the lowest print run or something else?

    Must of been?

I'll give a general answer. Pearl Jam's albums from about 1996-2005 came out at a time when Vinyl was at its least popular. IE the albums put out during this period weren't intended to be limited edition. They easily created enough copies to satisfy demand when each album came out. If you combine the low popularity of Vinyl with the albums in this era being the least mainstream of PJ's catalog. It's a recipe for not having many copies out there.

I think Binaural probably hits the sweet spot of both. One of PJ's least mainstream albums that came out at a time when Vinyl really wasn't popular anymore. It probably meant they didn't need to press alot of copies at the time to deal with demand. I bought it at a record store a few months after it came out. It wasn't superhard to find in 2000.

It won't be for long - reissue of No Code and then Binaural should be coming! Prices of original pressing will then drop dramatically, if the first pressing matters to you. C'mon reissues! I wish they'd get a move on with them now that vinyl is making a come back.

    Thanks Zod!
I'm only missing Yield, No Code, and Binaural Vinyl.
Did 10c ever say how long till the Yield / No Code Super Deluxe Box Set will come out?
    Or if ever?

I've seen this mentioned before... but I don't get it. Why would a Yield/No Code box set even be made? Why would those two albums be put together?? It doesn't make sense to me. I hope they don't do that. If they have to make a box set (don't get that either. I don't see the point, when they release each album individually anyway), why wouldn't it be a No Code/Binaural box set? And then a Yield/Avocado box set (Riot Act stands alone :))? Because that would make WAY more sense.

As someone who has only been collecting (and rocking out to) vinyl only the past year I find collecting Pearl Jam vinyl pretty frustrating. I'm not a huge Foo Fighters Fan, but I've managed to get all their records on vinyl for a cheap price, because once vinyl took off again, they reissued everything. Fans wanted it, and it made good business sense.

What I really want is more Pearl Jam vinyl. At first I found the steep ebay (I think the forum is a far better place to buy vinyls) prices ridiculous, but now I'm willing to pay some of those. I'd rather still buy from you guys however.

I think eventually I'll wind up buying them all, and getting a second mortgage and/or divorce.

So hopefully there will be some more reissues in the future!

Right. If we all want vinyl prices to go down before the reissues, then we all have to stop paying so much for them and force the sellers to lower. Since none of us have any will power as far as I can tell, that isn't going to happen! I'm done with $175 vinyl though. I guess I got it out of my system. I'm waiting for the reissues no matter what from now on.

I wanted all the vinyl (need Binaural, Lost Dogs and PJ20), but have given up. I did purchase No Code and Riot Act from members here at very good prices and am thankful for that. I just can't see me dropping several hundred on a couple of records. It's just not worth it and it pains me each time I see a "Sealed Lost Dogs for sale" thread. Open the fucker and listen!!

It's a green disease when it comes to spinning the black circle with this band.

I can't believe people have sealed first pressings!! Although it makes me want them really bad. I like having mint vinyl, and that's the only way you can be guaranteed that it's in perfect condition. I stopped at No Code (wonder if that reissue will have the same amazing presentation as the original? The Vitalogy reissue is actually NICER than the first pressing - the jacket is textured. Otherwise it's identical). I drool a little when I see sealed Riot Act for sale, but I resist. Lost Dogs would be great... wonder if they'll ever reissue that?? What I REALLY want is Temple of the Dog. I'm PRAYING that someone decides to reissue that album!! They really should now. With PJ and Soundgarden touring, now would be a perfect time for that treat.

But I thought I heard that they were taking a break with putting out reissues-
(and a 10c break could be forever...)
    :|
I hope they know how desperate we are for more Vinyl Reissues.....

I think that was just the rumor mill. Someone said in some thread somewhere that they thought 10C would take a break, and someone else guessed that they'd reissue them on each of their 10 year anniversaries or whatever ... all random conjecture as far as I know. 10C has never said anything about a schedule for reissues. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought it might have been mentioned on the AET radio show one day that they were taking a break....
Plus I think they were disappointed with the VS/Vitalogy sales...
    I could be totally wrong....
    I hope....

Have never seen or heard anything to suggest there was anything said by 10C. If they said something about a break, I believe them, but I don't think that would mean a forever break. More like a couple years.... I'm not too surprised about the box set though. I think the box set idea is stupid, and that's why it didn't sell well. Why buy the Vs/Vitalogy box set for all that money when you can get both regular reissues for $12 each?? I mean, seriously. All they have to do is release each album on its own and stop worrying about the gimmicks. I say there is no way they won't reissue every album (and drop the box sets). PJ values vinyl too much to stop after only 3.

Meh. Yeah sure, some fans obviously want it. But clearly not enough want to pay that kind of price for a scrapbook and a couple of extra songs that anyone can get for free on Gremmie.net or whatever. It's pretty cool, but not for that kind of money; I don't think it's worth it personally. Times are tough. *shrug* Hey, if they can sell 'em, great. Just doesn't seem like they can, or not as well as they'd hoped.

I need Binaural, Riot Act, Yield, AND Avocado. :( And all the non-studio stuff aside from PJ20, i.e. Lost Dogs, LO2L, etc. And no hope for buying a Benny, so praying for a reissue of that some day too. Come on reissues! HAPPEN PLEASE!!
So mad that I was too stupid to understand the value of vinyl when tapes and CDs came along. But nooooo, I thought it was more important to be able to play everything in my walkman, and ditched vinyl completely by 1989. And I had a turntable. I just turned my back. Stupid stupid stupid! Well, at least I saw the light eventually. But man, I wish I'd bought all those records when they were released!

Everyone worth listening to is doing vinyl now, and I'm so happy about that!! Trying to play catch up is hard though. My vinyl-free gap goes from '89 to last year! Ouch! I turn back to my collection before tapes, and I'm staring at Michael Jackson Thriller, the Footloose Soundtrack, Rick Springfield, and Wham!. :fp:
