Just had to throw these two songs out there, always been two favorites of mine... Of course we all love Dark Side, Wish you Were Here, and the Wall, but early PF had a lot of cool stuff....

I missed Roger Waters in my state this week. I saw him last year, though, and the show was amazing. Unfortunately, that's the closest we'll ever get to seeing Pink Floyd again.

Track down the rip from the 8 track and it has a Snowy White guitar solo in it. Good stuff. I wanna say something from Wish You Were Here has an extra solo too.

I love Animals and it's definitely a contender for top album, but I could never put it at the top. As played out as DSOTM is, I don't think there is a better album ever made. I've definitely been listening to other more for a long time now but I just find a serious negative critique for that album even if I really tried. I'd put WYWH, Meddle, Animals, and The Wall in the conversation.

Everybody heard about the Wish You Were Here documentary that's coming out? Caught the edited version on TV awhile back and it looks pretty cool.

Loving the new Pink Floyd channel on SiriusXM. Had a great "town hall" talk with Roger Waters today on there. Lot's of great questions that Roger answered very honestly. Also loving some of the live shows they have been playing.

I just got the blu ray for my birthday last week but I haven't had time to watch it yet. I'll post here once I do though.

"Wish You Were Here" is an amazing album... IMO the rest of their albums other than DS and TW you just have to take the journey thru them.. I like them all, but I grew up listening to all their stuff as a teenager so it's already planted in my head and soul....

Wish you Were Here and Animals are my two favorite albums, followed by Dark Side and the Wall. Obscured By Clouds is a great album too, but it's not "beginner" Floyd. Check out Chilhood's End from Obscured--it's their most underrated gem.

I recommend starting with a song or two off each album to see what catches your ear. But really you can't go wrong with the above suggestion: get Wish You Were Here next.

  • The Wall might be the finest album ever produced. In my opinion, it's clearly Floyd's greatest piece of work- the writing, music, vocal work by Gilmour and Waters, and the feelings it conjures from track one to finish sets it apart. I can't recall ever placing one of the tracks on a playlist (mixed tape or burnt cd for that matter). It was always all or nothing with the Wall. No other music fit with it. A genre of its own.

DSOTM would be number two- another epic almost worthy of the same accolades I lauded upon The Wall.

Wish You Were Here and Animals, excellent albums in their own way, are a notch below both.

The Final Cut is underrated- Two Suns in the Sunset is a wicked tune and the lyrics, again, cleverly revealed Waters' hatred for warfaring mankind.

    * To me, their earlier stuff is just different than the 'second era' Floyd. Strong as well, but different- they are tough to compare. Songs like Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and One of these Days are great earlier songs, but overall... the earlier albums were largely psychedelic themed without the depth that the latter albums had.

That's part of the reason I think it's a notch below DSOTM and maybe the other albums. They're all great as a whole, but you start piecing the albums out and there are still great songs there. I love everything on The Wall in it's context, but some of that stuff can be a little pointless on it's own.

Animals = greatest thing Pink Floyd ever did together IMO

I love Piper but I almost consider that a different band because of Syd.

Thanks for the info about the Wish You Were Here doc...I'll definitely be picking that up!
