    I don't want this to get blown up out of proportion. It wasn't recent and it was more likely a stupid and thoughtless remark by a very immature person who tried to intimidate but what if it was something more serious...and there are people who aren't right in the head and could go after anyone. This is why I believe in privacy, that's all. Thanks.

    That is terrible and very scary Kat I'm sorry this happened to you,
    I know others also.

    I have been researching cyber bullies and their handiwork, something needs to be done
    to stop this for sure. The laws in place are not enough, as it is escalating.
    Its a mean world out there... is it getting meaner?

    And fear and public humiliation the biggest weapon and control the bully has over us.

    In this proposal no one would have to post their info to the public, that is optional.
    Only if it was requested to keep a post up.
    It seems it would not affect mods or administrators but those commenting.

    The upon request I guess means administrators/mods would be very busy
    deleting anonymous posts if they were slanderous and it was requested by the victim.
    My hope is it would in general deter slanderous posts and bullying
    as the post would just come down.

    Points raised in many posts. This type of bill is a goldmine for a good number of corporations that sell such 'services' and others. A goldmine for data gatherers (all this done legally already, mind you, but the bill would make it SO much easier), a goldmine for insurance companies, a goldmine for litigators.... Not to mention the 'easy access' for weirdos. Oh, and of course the 'protection' of politicians' 'good name'. Nothing altruistic about it.

    We are already more and more exposed as we use our computers, iPads/tablets, smartphones, cable TVs, etc. Our lives are entwined with these technologies and I believe that a lot of us (in our type of society) would have great difficulties doing without all of this. A law enabling even more intrusion is really not necessary.

    Again... this is an area of a greater forum that is set aside for those difficult issues that have no simple solutions. If you can't take criticism from an opposing view... then, you probably shouldn't be argueing your viewpoint in the manner you have chosen... right?

    A lot of forums, etc. do have their own rules and regulations, the level of 'tolerance' reflecting the nature of the site. I'm sure things are 'rougher' and discordance may even be encouraged on a Ted Nugent type site/forum than on a happy-clappy church forum. Each individual needs to choose what is suitable for them. (Please - this is not inviting a debate on TN or happy-clappy churches).

    I know all about blinkers in that I live in an equestrian community, our community is next door to the Palm Beach International Polo Club, an uncle who trains race horses and clients who own thoroughbred racehorses. Horses are all around me and very good clear up on the word blinker in your earlier post. 8-) Oh I'm always in some sort of ache or pain non stop activity with 4 kids now down to 4 Aleeve in my small stack.

    My great push is well beyond this proposal as I have said. Also not all websites do this
    why there is the level of harm being done to others.

    All for the view as long as it's not someone getting beat up.
    That is where I draw the line.

    For me, it is the opposite ...
    the blinders are on those who don't care to feel the trauma of others
    and worry about their own rights. But we see this does not effect their rights
    because they would not have to give their info out, only to keep a slanderous post up
    does one need to do that.
    It's a really fair situation if you are a victim or have loved one

    No I have said it is a start to aid victims, not the end all.

    And no one has to post their personal info to make a comment under this proposal.

    If someone makes an untrue malicious statement meant to hurt another and the
    victim asks upon request to know the abuser. The abuser can remove the post
    and no harm done. The victim knows no ones info.
    It is a fair situation for those being slandered and bullied. And it may deter that
    taking place because the abuser will know it will be taken down.

    So what is the damage? A victim has the right to stop the abuse. Just like here,
    the mods call out the offenders. This would be a law covering areas of the internet
    where protection is not available.

    who enacts this law is the victims of abuse no one else, who enforces is it is individual websites mods and administrators

    it is not about happy or not happy it is about lies and pain for victims

    I use the "ignore" feature found on many sites and forums. Works like a charm. And if they don't have that feature, I'm likely not going to use that sure for long.
