"Whether you're a conservative or a liberal or a progressive, a Democrat or a Republican, everybody can be and should be concerned about this: the constant consolidation of media, particularly national distribution of media, with a few companies -- no more than six, my count is four -- now control more than 80 percent of the true national distribution of news. These large corporations, they have things they need from the power structure in Washington, whether it's Republican or Democrat, and of course the people in Washington have things they want the news to be reported. To put it bluntly, very big business is in bed with very big government in Washington, and has more to do with what the average person sees, hears, and reads than most people know."

The video on the site is really worth watching, including why he was fired from CBS. (releasing that GWB went AWOL)

    Dan's very out of touch.

Is what he's describing happening? Absolutely.

Does it matter anymore when there are seemingly infinite other sources of news we have access to in order to verify what we're getting from the so-called major media outlets? Yes.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

Good man, Dan! One of the last of our true reporters. Now were left with actors and charlatans. I'm glad Mr. Rather is still out there!

rather still stands by his bush awol story. it takes a special kind of integrity to stand by a story that effectively ended your career on network tv.

they don't make reporters like him, helen thomas, ed bradley, harry reasoner, mike wallace, et al anymore...
