Hey everyone,

It's been fairly quiet on the Hip vinyl front lately. I sold off some extras that I had kicking around, and got my hands on another German Road Apples as well as a 7" Last American Exit single. Still patiently waiting to spin the story of Shamu and Bartholomew, aka. the Little Bones 12", though... :)

The contents of my Hip collection are listed below, conservatively graded according to the following scale (cover / vinyl / printed lyric sleeve):

M > NM+ > NM > NM- > EX+ > EX > EX- > VG+ > VG > VG- > G+ > G > G- > F

"..." means I am due to receive the record, but it hasn't arrived yet and thus has not been graded by me.

- The Tragically Hip, promotional USA Sterling pressing (VG+ / NM-)
- Up to Here, Canadian Precision pressing (EX / NM-)

- Trouble at the Henhouse, Canadian pressing (VG+/ NM- / VG)
- Tragically Hip / Bodeans on Westwood Radio (LP1: NM, LP2: EX, cue sheet: VG+) thanks to markslog!

Singles:

- Cordelia 7" promo (EX / EX)
- Little Bones 12" (EX- / NM)
- Courage 12" ...
- Courage 12" (EX+ / NM)
- Courage 12" (NM / NM) thanks to markslog!
- Locked in the Trunk of a Car 12" (VG+ with holepunched corner / EX-)
- Locked in the Trunk of a Car 12", MCA promo (EX+ / NM-)

I am looking for the following Hip vinyl:

- Twist My Arm 7" single
- New Orleans is Sinking 7" single

If I have something you need and you have something I need, then get in touch; maybe we can work out a trade. I'm also open to any buy / sell offers, too. Let's make a deal!

Completely off topic, but thanks for requesting Brain of J at the '11 Hamilton show.

    Well done.

Don't thank me, thank the band. All I did was take five minutes to draw it out on bristol board, and then pester them all night until they finally caved haha.

Loved it. Especially how Eddie sings the first half an octave lower. That's how I sing Brain of J. when I play it on my acoustic guitar.

I've got a setlist from the show and it definitely makes me smile to see that Brain of J was quickly added in there.

This is a picture I took from my seat of the setlist before the show started (I have a pretty amazing digital camera, I must say ;) ).

Believe me when I say I didn't peek at the setlist beforehand, but my brother did, and the only thing he told me about the setlist before the show started was, "Brain of J. isn't on the setlist, bro!".

I've got the monitor engineer's setlist and Brain of J was quickly written on it. I wasn't suggesting it was already on the setlist.

Nah, it wasn't my intention to doubt or disagree with you. This is simply how I knew myself before the show started that, if they ended up playing it, it would have to be a last-minute thing as opposed to it already being on the setlist from the start.

I saw photos of the modified setlist with "Brain" squeezed in (and Evolution scratched out), and thought it was so cool that I had to do a side-to-side comparison with my photo for me to believe it was actually true.

    Hey everyone,

I obtained a copy of Live on Two Legs yesterday, and an original pressing of Vitalogy is on its way. Thanks to the individuals involved for hooking me up!

That just leaves one more major find (until I tackle tracking down a Benny, that is):

    - Lost Dogs

The easiest Tragically Hip LP to get is in my possession, and that leaves the following if anyone is looking to move some Hip vinyl:

    - Locked in the Trunk of a Car 12" single
    - Little Bones 12" single
    - Up to Here
    - Day for Night
    - Road Apples
    - Fully Completely
    - Live Between Us ... and (dare I ask):
    - Trouble at the Henhouse

... and if you are willing to ship to Canada, please feel free to get in touch! Of course, if you are located in the Toronto/GTA region, so much the better.

Are you still looking for Lost Dogs LP? Also.. wherebouts are you in GTA?

I'm working on both Pearl Jam and Hip vinyl myself. Hip vinyl is so hard to find. I didn't even know there were vinyls past "Road Apples". My holy grail would definitely be "Day for Night". If you ever come across some you already have shoot me a pm. In the past three weeks I've managed to get No Code, Lo2L, Yield, and PJ20 but no Hip in sight. I'm in Canada too, well Newfoundland .... lol

Vinyl pressings exist for all albums from the Hip EP to Trouble at the Henhouse, plus Live Between Us (and We Are the Same). The Hip EP and Up to Here are easier to track down than the others. I got lucky with Fully Completely, I freely admit. It is extremely hard to find, and when you do find it, more often than not you'll have to shell out a small fortune to get it.

The record I want to get my hands on the most from what's left on my list is Day for Night. There seems to be more copies of it around than Fully Completely, going by how many have been posted on the bay lately. And you'd think that being in Canada would help our cause, but it doesn't seem to be the case. All of my Hip vinyl purchases have come from outside of Canada, so I think of it as bringing them back home where they belong. ;)

I was once like you but gave up. I have S/T, Up to Here and Road Apples but could never bring myself to splurge on Fully Completely or Day for Night.

Just so you know, there is a DFN up on ebay right now - bids are up to $122.

The Tragically Hip album Road Apples on vinyl is an interesting beast. It apparently has four pressings: The (supposedly sonically-inferior) German pressing, a US sterling pressing, a regular Canadian pressing, and a Limited Edition Canadian pressing.

Within the span of a day, I was able to get my hands on both the German and regular Canadian pressings for pretty decent prices. I learned that there are a few differences between the two. The German one first:

    IMG_1821.JPG
The bottom-right corner of the German cover.

    IMG_1823.JPG
The upper-right corner of the German cover.

    IMG_1825.JPG
The second side of the German LP. (Can you spot the amusing spelling mistake? :D)

    And now the Canadian one:

The Canadian pressing does not have a barcode anywhere on the cover, oddly enough, so no picture of that.

    IMG_1824.JPG
The Canadian pressing was distributed by Columbia House records. Reading that brought back distant childhood memories of thumbing through my old man's Columbia House catalog. Too bad I didn't have the foresight to purchase this album back then. :)

    IMG_1826.JPG
Note the rainbow MCA label, and the different catalog number: CMCA-10173.

Interesting stuff. I never would have known the differences had I not had the two versions side-by-side. Oh, and Road Apples sounds absolutely amazing on vinyl, probably the best of the Hip albums in my collection.
