PJ and the Foos can play in any major market around the world right now, when DMB played Central Park in 2003, a majority of their fanbase was limited to the US, nowhere near where they are on an international level now, and nowhere near where Pearl Jam has been on an international level for the past 20 years. I think you're underestimating how many people would go to this show, especially if PJ doesn't schedule many US dates this year. And I realize how big Garth Brooks is and that he was probably at the peak of his popularity when he played there, I was joking  If tickets are limited it's a moot point, but if there's no cap, it's not unbelievable for 2 of the biggest rock bands of the last 20 years to draw 400,000 people at a free show in New York City on a Saturday (pretty sure the DMB show was mid week).

PJ couldn't sell out alpine valley

yes i realize NYC is 3,000 times easier to get to ... but PJ20 was an EVENT in the world of PJ... and lawn seats could be bought with ease

Even if it was (PJ20) the event of the world (that year) of PJ (per say), it was located in the middle of nowhere's. Not every Pearl Jam fan in the world (big or small) traveled there for that festival event. And yes it's 3000x (hell it's even 10000x +times) easier to get to Central Park then it is to Alpine Valley. Thousands of people (what am I saying, millions of people) live just minutes away from Central Park. This draws much more attendance then anything else.

airplanes do fly to milwaukee and Chicago... so i think 3000x is the right number ;)

Totally depends on cost of the show. If its a free Central Park show with the Foos.. you could easily hit those insanely high numbers.

But if its a normally priced PJ show, then yeah its not going to be 100,000+

oh sure... for free you'll get 32,000 who just come for Jeremy... and 43,500 who just want to hear just breathe

and then 8,943 who want to hear My Own Prison ;)

I'm in tears laughing at this, but sadly I believe it would be true.

Are there even enough Porta-Pots in NYC to accommodate 400,000 taking an Even Flow piss break

This forum greatly overemphasizes the current popularity of Pearl Jam to be quite honest. Demand for this wouldn't be near the level for other big Central Park shows.

Yes. We must get out of the bubble.....

I doubt it. I think FF are currently a bigger draw than PJ so they would probably headline.

That's fine. I can get up close early, then leave and hit the bars while a bunch of FOOls stand around for the after birth.... I mean after show. Otherwise, I'd feel like I have to stay close for the painful first set.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I think it's time to put an end to Monday. This has been a less than satisfying day. Plllbbbt.

a free show in Central Park would bring a lot of assholes out of the woodwork whom I have no interest in attending a show with. Maybe Im in a bad mood, I dont know.

But you'd hope that the FF would show the respect PJ deserves.
I definitely see FF opening. I think Dave would even say the same thing that they would open for PJ.

if this show happens i doubt it would be a free show. it will be for some sort of charity. didn't someone else mention before that the past few shows in Central Park were for the Robin Hood Foundation? and PJ has done things for them before? best guess is some sort of donation with a limit of maybe 50-75k in attendance. and i agree with those that a free show will bring out a whole bunch of idiots i'd have no interest in being around.

I don't think I could miss this show. I really need to talk to a shrink or something because I'm addicted to traveling for Pearl Jam shows.

if this is true, how long can they really keep it from getting out? If they have already hired security, and they are leaking the info, I have to imagine info will start leaking from many other sources as well. How long do you think it will be before an official announcement for a show happening at the end of September? why would they even want to keep it a secret? if they have already booked security for the event, it sounds like a done deal, why not announce it and start selling tickets? I just want to grab a plane ticket while they are still cheap.... if they wait 2 months to announce this plane fair will be double what it is now.

The people in the front would probably have to pay and the rest would need a pass. When Dave Matthews did it I don't remember if you had to pay. But you still needed a pass to get in. They were handing them out on the streets.

Hypothetically speaking (theme of this thread), if they announced two shows at Alpine Labor Day with just PJ and one show in Central Park with the Foo's, and you could only choose one, which would it be?

I would probably go to Central Park just because it would be special but it would be hard to pass up two nights of just PJ.

I have a free stay in a NYC apartment and I might still pass on a show like this. I agree with mayday. Too many people in crappy new york. I would think about going to a warmup show though if it was a small place(Roseland or something).

Crappy New York? Wow.... there is nothing crappy about NY, it just ain't for everybody. I happen to love everything about NYC.

    Back on topic....
They have donated to the Central Park Conservancy before. So... who knows?

:shh: Don't let folks like this in on our secret. It makes it a better place. (Derek Jeter and other neighbors of the Park  and  and nodding).

I'm just saying that I don't want to be fighting for a spot amidst 100's of thousands of people IF this were even happening. Roseland or a smilar venue would be easy in, easy out. It's no secret that you might even get pissed on in a nyc crowd of that magnitude.

NYC has a strict no sex with your sister policy

..... I can see how this would be a problem for some
