This show would be incredible, obviously.. but there are so many things that would go wrong...
#1... FREE... Foo fighters and PJ .. at a free show... ummm
#2 Central Park (although amazing.. with it being free.. i would expect there to be at least 250-400k people.. like.. seriously)
If DMB can draw 121k people... the amount of people a free foo and pj show would be absolutely staggering. Can Central Park even handle the inflow and outflow of the expected amount of people?
hopefully... 10C and Foo fan members get early access or special access admission.. because these are the people that should be front at any show.. let alone a free show where the biggest fans would be pushed to the back, most likely.
I hope the 10C and the Foo's fan club talk with the city or whomever is in charge of Central Park and work this out.

I went to the DMB show in 2003 and while it was free, you still needed tickets to actually get in. There were various spots around the city on certain days you could get them in the weeks before the concert. It was being sponsored by AOL to raise money for NYC schools, so you had to show up at a designated location, a ton of fans/scalpers showed up, then a group of people working for the event handed out these AOL promo cd's with barcodes on the back of them. You got one, then they scanned it, and you had something like a 1 in 3 chance of your cd having a good barcode. From there, you took your CD to a separate location a few blocks away to pick up your tickets. Had a very Willy Wonka vibe to it There were several opportunities to get tickets, and each winning cd got you 2 tickets, so me and about 10 of my friends from college ended up going.
If this show happens and the tickets are distributed in a similar way, then the crowd size won't be an issue as they would just limit the amount of tickets that are available. Keeping in mind this was almost 10 years ago, just my 2 cents on how they could control the crowd size. And I think the the actual number at the DMB show was around 100,000 people or a little less, but don't think it was over 100,000, maybe they gave out over 100,000 tickets though.

Dont they do those free "ticketed" shows for smaller crowds over by the hayden planetarium? DMB wasnt on the great lawn was it?
The smaller summerstage shows are over by the planetarium I think, and those tickets you have to actually pay for (with or without scalpers ). And yea, DMB was on the great lawn when they played also.

Simon & Garfunkel had 500,000+
Garth Brooks had 750,000+
So you're saying there's a chance!! Based on that I think PJ and Foos in Central Park could easily get 4-500,000 people.
How the hell did Garth Brooks get 750,000 people there?? guess it pays to have friends in low places...

Ok that would be a blast just to be in the Park listening to the band i could care less where i see them from specially if it's free that will be an all day afair for me , whos gonna hang with me that day
Again, why wouldnt you guys just look to what BEP did just a few months ago.

What are you talking about? If you don't realize that Garth Brooks is 100 times more popular than PJ and Foos COMBINED, I think you need to get out a bit more.
I don't like Garth Brooks, but he has millions more fans than both bands. PJ/Foos would NOT get anywhere close to 200,000, let alone 400,000. I almost hate to say it, but if DMB got 100,00 or so, I'd say that's the ballpark you're looking at (maybe, a bit more, but they're not sniffing 400,000). PJ sells out MSG and Philly multiple times b/c half the crowd is the same every night.
Simon and Garfunkel did 500K 30 years ago b/c they were a NY institution. There's a point on the lawn where even free doesn't make it worth it to the casual music fan that's just "showing up." And S&G, Garth Brooks are more in folks' subconscious than PJ (let alone Foos).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
SummerStage 2012 Lineup Features Hamlet Set To Pearl Jam's Ten
... giving us an excuse to dust of some vintage Vedder photographs.
The City Parks Foundation has officially announced the 2012 season of SummerStage, but one thing really stood out amongst the 54-page PDF press release we received: over in the Bronx they'll be doing a re-imagined version of Hamlet set to the music of Pearl Jam. Say what? According to the release, the theatrical concert event, called A King of Infinite Space, will take place on July 13th and 14th in Crotona Park.
"Noted playwright Mando Alvarado’s modern spin on William Shakespeare’s Hamlet places the plot in the Lower East Side for a more relatable take on the quintessential tale of struggling family dynamics, power, and revenge. Fusing the music and themes from American rock icon Pearl Jam’s ground-breaking album, Ten, with a gritty Lower East Side dynamic, this concert event relates Shakespeare’s 17th century literature to 21st century New York City."
We are shocked that they didn't replace "gritty" with "grungy," given neither is accurate. But moving along, the massive aforementioned PDF file declares the musical big draws at this time to be Big Daddy Kane, Dawes, Bobby Womack, a Blue Note Jazz night with DJ ?uestlove, and Inner Circle. There's also mention of the CBGB Festival, which looks like it's been folded into the SummerStage lineup, and will only take place one day, July 7th, starting at 3p.m. (no acts have been announced yet). More additions to the summer series will be announced in the coming weeks.

PJ and the Foos can play in any major market around the world right now, when DMB played Central Park in 2003, a majority of their fanbase was limited to the US, nowhere near where they are on an international level now, and nowhere near where Pearl Jam has been on an international level for the past 20 years. I think you're underestimating how many people would go to this show, especially if PJ doesn't schedule many US dates this year. And I realize how big Garth Brooks is and that he was probably at the peak of his popularity when he played there, I was joking  If tickets are limited it's a moot point, but if there's no cap, it's not unbelievable for 2 of the biggest rock bands of the last 20 years to draw 400,000 people at a free show in New York City on a Saturday (pretty sure the DMB show was mid week).
