Just bought Happy's album, Lovers Come Back, last night. This guy's really talented...I think he plays all the instruments on the record.

If you're interested, he's got a pretty good website with videos of him playing live.

Cool performance! Shawn Smith has such a cool voice. Can't believe I've been listening to these guys for almost 20 years too!!

BLECH! Horrible. Stone's awesome, but god, that guy just can't sing to save his life. I don't understand how anyone thinks he sounds like anything other than awful.

It's not horrible, but it seems kinda dry without much character. Reminds of a mix of Stone Gossard and Jack Black on this performance.

It reminds me of my dad trying to sing... but with him, my mom was always thankfully around to tell him to shut up because he can't sing to save his life and was bothering the neighbors.

Listen to some of their records, or his records, or Satchel records. The dude can sing. Very good live too. I've seen him several times. Not saying his voice is for everyone, you might hate it, but he can definitely sing.

That's Harold/Happy!!?? Awesome, i had no clue. Loved his (and Shawn's) contributions to Afghan Whigs (Black Love-era), listened to that album non-stop for a few years. Cool!

    cheers

Yeah, to each their own... I have listened to lots, as I actually always do give a really good chance when it comes to PJ-related projects. I don't just listen to something once and write it off. I keep listening (especially when lots of others like it - I know that sometimes something has to grow on you, and then mood can affect it too). I give credit to other music fans, and give music that other people around here like a fair shot. And I still don't think he can sing worth a damn. I think he sounds TEEERRRRRIBLLLLE!! Like, heinous. It makes me want to actually plug my ears. I've heard what I consider better voices at drunken karaoke-themed Christmas staff parties, and I'm not even kidding. Just a personal opinion though (I have such an adverse reaction to the sound, I suspect it's a physiological chemical reaction, lol) ... and I'm sticking by my personal opinion on it! :D ... I dunno. It's weird that I disagree so strongly with so many other people on this one, because usually my feelings about what sounds good isn't so radically different from everyone else's around here. I mean, we all love PJ, right? So it's weird that everyone seems to like the sound of this guy's singing while I would rather hear babies cry.
