PJ songs sounding like other bands/artists' songs
Has anyone noticed any PJ songs that sound similar to other songs by bands and artists? I was listening to The Rolling Stones' song "Bitch" and noticed a similarity with "Satan's Bed". I know Mike is a huge Stones and Keith Richards fan and I noticed a similarity between them. The guitar work is a clear sign to me, from the riff to the solo, sounds very similar.
Is it just me or does anyone else hear this similarity? Any other PJ songs that sound similar to bands and artists that the band was influenced?

Parachutes reminds me of a Beatles song..I'm gone ..Long gone..This time I'm letting go of it all...So long...Cause this time I'm gone0

It's mildly beatlesque I guess, but not directly like any particular Beatles song.
the most obvious by far has to be Given to Fly for the melody - Led Zeps Going to California.
Yellow ledbetter guitar is clearly influenced by Hendrix's Little Wing but again pretty obvious.London 29-10-96, London 29/30-5-00, London 20-4-06, Reading 27-8-06, London 18-6-07, London 11-8-09, London 18-8-09, London 25-6-10, Berlin 30-6-10 / PJ20 3/4-9-11, Manchester 20-6-12, Amsterdam 26/27-6-12, EV-London 30/31-7-12, EV-Orlando 27-11-120 -
I never thought of Bitch and Satan's Bed but I agree with you. As for other examples, obviously The Who. Ed's always been a big Who fan. I've been listening to the Uke album and the beginning of Your True is lifted from Pinball Wizard. I seem to remember watching something about him getting a Who bootleg in the PJ20 movie and how that was really important. There's the Given to Fly/Going to California thing too. There's always going to be homage and stylistic similarities between new things and those that have come before, very rarely are any truly new ideas produced. In fact some people think that all of the songs that are worth anything have already been written. I am not one of those people but I can understand that mentality.

I seem to remember hearing something in my buddy's car, by Firehouse I believe, that sounded like the opening riff to Immortality. Can't remember which song though. I still don't hear the GTF/GTC similarity - one song rocks and one song is quiet. Apples and oranges....0

I've always thought that too.
I think that "Gonna See My Friend" sounds like a song that could be by The Who... but, I can't really draw a particular comparison to any exact Who song.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

I was going to say this one.
I don't see the Given to Fly/Going to California resemblance either. I tried listening to them back to back and I still don't get it. I can see how maybe the tempo of the verses might be similar, but not enough to where I'd relate the two.Member Number: 437xxx
