    This is the song that makes me want to be in a garage band. Very lucky to have seen it (although Ed flubbed the opening lyrics :lol: ) in St. Paul in '03.

    I love posts like this, when people who are actually musicians and can articulate analysis of songs in a way that makes it easier for the rest of us to understand.....and also goes to show why what seems like little things like this make a difference in the songs and invokes different feelings in people, and also why this band is the best on the planet.

    big fin of this tune, lots of fun to play on the bass too, it can sound ferocious, very garage band-esque

    I like that idea of the first chord then on to the next chord twice right away as the OP explained

    dig the lyrics too, sound gems in there

    overlooked and unappreciated song live

    Ghost is one seriously underrated song but then that's pretty much the same for Riot Act. I know everyone has their own opinion and I respect that we don't all love the same things but I can't get over just how much this album rocketed up my favourites list. I always liked songs from it but as an album I used to find it weak. Now I think it is one of the most intelligent lyrical and musical periods of the history of the band and they've never hit those heights since. I'm not saying the two albums which followed don't have their moments but in comparison I find them very weak compared to Riot Act and Binaural. Back to the subject in hand, I like how the op described Ghost and it's urgency. I always felt like it had that kind of TV newsflash feel, the opening chords grab your attention and very quickly Ed is the reporter on scene to tell you the news. There is a claustrophobic feeling on Riot Act which I'm not sure is just my view or something others feel but Ghost is a release from that for a few minutes without losing it's political edge. Very underplayed live and this year I'd welcome it's return.
    Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    I feel the same way. Obviously there's great stuff in every PJ album and each of us has his/her own favorites for different reasons but there is a depth and commitment and feel to Riot Act that, to my ears at least, hits a real high point. I liked it right from the start but I think my appreciation for the album continues to grow as I hear more and more of the fine points that give it such depth. It's certainly a record they can rightfully feel very proud of creating and, from various reading, I get the feeling that's pretty much how the band feels about this album. An amazing work.

    I have to place my vote in favor of Ghost. I can listen to this song over and over. "I've seen it all before--bring it on cause I'm no victim."
    LOVE IT!!! Riot Act has been in my regular rotation for the last few months so I've been hearing a lot of it. Love to see all the point of views about it here...
