I've heard Shidoobee is good. I'm a member at IORR (I'ts Only Rock N' Roll for those that don't know) at http://www.iorr.org/. The people over there are knowledgeable, I just don't like the way the forums are laid out. There are basically 3 forums. One for trading stuff, another for trading tickets, and then the main board. Since they don't have a board for off-topic stuff (like AMT or AET here) the area that is essentially The Porch is a mixture of everything on and off topic. The guy who runs the site is apparently kind of stuck in his ways and refuses (in spite of many requests from the members) to change it. Or he says he refuses, he might just not be able to, I don't know. There is usually more on topic stuff than off topic stuff though, so it's not THAT bad. It could just be organized better.

There are a crapload of bootlegs and soundboard recordings over there just ripe for the taking though. Some of them are put in the main board, some in the trading board. If you're looking for a specific show or want some suggestions they'll load you down with more stuff than you can hope to getting around to listening to. When I first joined I asked if anybody had the Ft. Worth '97 show, they dug up 3 different version of it for me. A soundboard, an audience recording, and an unofficial bootleg with some bonus tracks. This could probably be said for Shidoobee also though. The Stones trading community is large and active.

Mick and The Stones have been on SNL many times, and Mick has participated in several sketches, but this will be his first stint as host.

Wow, Howard Stern really gave Mick a hard time. I mean he was nice too and called him one of the greatest guitarists ever and stuff like that, but he also gave him a lot of shit over his decision to quit The Stones.

Also nice to hear Mick playing a little "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" with The Roots. Sounded a lot better than the recent versions The Stones have played.

I had heard that the band was in NYC doing some rehearsals, but hadn't heard they were rehearsing for SNL. Just Jagger is listed as the musical guest, but this would be a nice surprise. I haven't been reading the Stones boards much the past week or two so it's very possible I've missed this. But that would make sense.

Taylor is also in New York... I've been waiting for the right moment to use this smilie... :corn:

Since ther is NO 50th ANNY Tour, why didn't Mick take out SuperHeavy and tour?

I know they played it on the Licks Tour and The Bigger Bang Tour.

As for why no SuperHeavy tour. Even though the tour has been pushed back, I'm guessing Mick is busy with Stones stuff. They have plans for other things planned for this year, other releases, more archive releases, a possible appearance on SNL, and probably rehearsals for the upcoming tour. Plus, if Mick went on tour with Superheavy after the tour was pushed back, Mick probably knew that everybody would blame him and say he would rather tour with them than The Stones.

I think if SuperHeavy went out on a Tour, it would've been small. But, that's just a guess on my part.

I don't think they played it at any of the North American dates, or any other dates around the world until the tour was winding down in Europe '07, then they busted it out almost every show. Germany, Finland, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, etc. And they played it at 2 of the 3 shows at O2 arena to end the tour.

I finally got around to watching SNL on my DVR today. I thought Jagger was pretty good as host. I found him pretty funny in every sketch except "The Californians", which wasn't really his fault. That sketch is just poorly written, and wasn't funny the first time, or original, I have no clue why they're trying to jam it down our throats and make it a recurring sketch. It's like a watered down version of that MadTV sketch, I forget what it was called. The entire point of the sketch is to make fun of California accents, something Jagger clearly wasn't going to be able to pull off seeing as how his own accent is too thick to cut through. But I found him funny in the other sketches.

As a musical guest I was less impressed, but maybe that's because he just sounds off playing with the other bands. I never listen to Arcade Fire, but they kind of sucked as Jagger's band. I was honestly questioning whether or not these people were professional musicians. They just sounded like shit. Maybe it's because "The Last Time" was not a very good song for them to play on, I don't know, whatever the reason, it was hard to watch. And Mick wasn't really improving the performance either. His performance with Foo Fighters (who I haven't really liked since their second album) was better, but still felt off because Mick and Foo Fighters just sounded weird. Mick seemed much more into that performance than the Arcade Fire one. And I liked the way Foo Fighters played "It's Only Rock And Roll (But I Like It)". They played it the way it sounds on the record, and not the different version that The Stones have always played. Their live version of the song is only recognizable because of the lyrics. I've never understood that, but when they play it live (even back in the day) it's a completely different arrangement, but Foo Fighters played the studio arrangement. Which I liked. And the fact that he played some deeper album cuts (Maybe not THAT deep, but not the ones you'd expect) was cool. The new song he played with Jeff Beck was pretty good, it was kind of generic blues stuff, but Jeff was hot, and it was new material.

Overall I thought it was a good episode, but I found Kristen Wiig's sendoff to be a little over the top and corny. You would have thought she was the biggest and most talented cast member in the history of SNL the way they made a big deal of sending her off. She's pretty funny, but her recurring characters (that they jammed down our throats the past few seasons) were all kind of lame and not very original in my opinion. No other cast member (Farley, Ferrell, Poehler, Sandler, Fey, MacDonald, Rudolph, etc) got a sendoff like that, and I'd say that they, and many others, were much more funny than Kristen.
