How do I simply record people jamming MAC

I have a mac book and an IPAD2. I do a lot of jamming in my garage with a few other musicians. On those nights where I want to record just to have it, what is the easiest way?
I haven't used garageband by any means.....but what do I need to get me started and do the job; not a professional recording, just to archive it.
Thanks,
PM, respond, or email

if you just need something really basic, you can open a new garageband file & use the built-in mic as your recording source. do a test run to make sure it picks everything up...you'll want to place the computer away from any amps or the drums. this is just for basic recording purposes, though. if you have any questions, just let me know & i'd be happy to help you out!

Buy a Blue Snowball USB mic or any usb quality mic and find the sweetspot in your jam space. Use garagebandPost edited by RedMosquito22 onMember 164xxx

USB mic and garage band will get it done, but I bet you will run into not just volume level distortion, but sound pressure distortion, the sound of the bass amps and kick drums you feel in your chest.... Takes a dedicated mic preamp or mixer and good mics to get a clean recording of a live band, to handle high sound pressure levels.
For the price of that apogee, I would recommend a field recorder, the Sony PCM m10, or tascam or zoom (all of which can also act as USB stereo mics for GarageBand) and just record direct to a field recorder and dump to garage band for mix down and cd/mp3 making.... It'll be stereo too!
I used a zoom H2 for a long time recording campfire acoustic guitar unplugged sessions, but it won't handle a live band's volume.... But field recorders are awesome fun!
Yeah that tascam im2 mic turns an iPhone into a field recorder, sure you could grab a back of the concert hall echoey tape of foo live, but anywhere near the stage those PA stacks are going to crush those mics, 125 db is all good, but sound pressure levels (SPLs) are another matter....[sic] happens0
