CONservative governMENt
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

Looks good but too long for my dinky computer- I'll have to rent it and get back here with one of my much sought-after reviews (FiveB247x wrote:

Sounds good. I'll have to watch it tomorrow0

It's a funny satire, but its underlying premise is far too real to not acknowledge/recognize when you look around society.CONservative governMENt

So this is what happens when Jesse Ventura runs the planet I suppose?

When you say ‘we’…do you mean the pit, or the world? AMT as a microcosm?

I was just telling some co-workers about this movie yesterday, weird…not enough people have seen it. Someone came to my desk and interrupted me…I said “go ‘way, ‘baitin”…..they didn’t catch the reference
Aaah…I’d love to mention specific scenes, but don’t want spoil anything. If anyone hasn’t seen it, it’s definitely worth a look.
You’re right tho, there are things about society (and the train) that remind me of this movie every single day… :?

Is this the movie that phrase comes from? I've been saying that for a long time!

I mean the world in general.
And I've heard interviews with Mike Judge talking bout this film and his take on why this and some of his other work has been more cult following more so than a commercial success. Much of it has to do with the topic matters as well as his lack of connection/marketability through the big media corporations who book the films, theatre's and similar. Also, he made a very funny joke basically saying that the mock movie which is the big blockbuster referenced in Idiocracy - "Ass" would be a bigger commercial hit and well received than his more actual satirical work which even in jest, mocks the very society he's trying to get to watch it.Drowned Out wrote:When you say ‘we’…do you mean the pit, or the world? Oddly I have a lot of respect for Jesse he did some good things to turn around the state and they had the best "human services" record out of any state in the union after he left. 0 -

Oh I was too young to even pay attention. I just remember hearing him on tv and laughing at his voice.

meh i couldn't get beyond the fact that it wont happen because iqs increase over time....
but it was alright0 -
So you look around society and overall think we're advancing as a species and improving beyond our problems and narrow minds? Wars, famine, hunger, inequality, racism and the similar certainly don't back up your point and as media and the speed of information improves, people's attention span and social skills deteriorate more.satansbed wrote:meh i couldn't get beyond the fact that it wont happen because iqs increase over time....

I agree, but.....
Maybe I just have too much faith in mankind to do the right thing.0 -
Fair enough.. I'm on the other end of spectrum. If there is any "saving grace" for the human species is that we have the potential to adapt to the climate and world around us. Who knows it'll matter in the long term, but I guess it serves as a chance.peacefrompaul wrote:

These things happen far less frequently now than ever before. War is far less prevalent. When is the last time. Developed nation had a famine. Racism, although still exists I'd less prelivant now. No more jim crow. Far more equality.0 -
Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0
