Liberals love to say things like, "We're just asking everyone to pay their fair share." But government is not about asking. It is about telling. The difference is fundamental. It is the difference between making love and being raped, between working for a living and being a slave. The Internal Revenue service is not asking anybody to do anything. It confiscates your assets and puts you behind bars if you don't pay. – Thomas Sowell, Forbes, July 1994

I've always felt that the government doesn't understand how to properly manage and spend the money they do have. I have seen it first hand at the state and city levels.0

im not an extremist but i think people need to understand that the govt does use force to get ppl to pay "their fair share." If the left cant understand that. then there is no chance of compromising with the right.RC, SoDak 1998 - KC 2000 - Council Bluffs IA 2003 - Fargo ND 2003 - St. Paul MN 2003 - Alpine Valley 2003 - St Louis MO 2004 - Kissimmee FLA 2004 - Winnipeg 2005 - Thunder Bay 2005 - Chicago 2006 - Grand Rapids MI 2006 - Denver CO 2006 - Lollapalooza 2007 - Bonnaroo 2008 - Austin City Limits 2009 - Los Angeles 2009 - KC 2010 - St Louis MO 2010 - PJ20 Night 1 - PJ20 Night 20

As they say the only thing for sure are death & taxes. Perhaps the problem is the definition of fair share, that's where people get lost?0

Stop voting for people that mismanage the money. The problem is us. We get the government we deserve."First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."

You're absolutely right that the problem is us. We never do anything to really shake up the system. I would further venture to say that the financial collapse is our fault. I've thought that he best way to recover is to realize we were part of the problem.0

Pay their fair share for WHAT?
I don't understand people continually calling for others to pay higher taxes. Let's get government spending under control and maybe people don't have to pay more. The only people we should try to get even with...
 ...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.0

Government spending starts with the biggest expense called the military complex. Not social services which you all bitch about (if the people are socially inept because of lack thereof or welfare abuse or whatever tickles your nuts to bitch about human services time ) and its preposterous.
I suggest if the corporate world wants us to use our military to secure their plunder they better f'ing pay for it. Im thinking some corporations owe "us" 3 trillion from the last "war" alone.0

Why would the corporations owe us money? They're just trying to make money. They aren't the ones directly sending our troops to war. Of course they could be lobbying, sure. What you need is a guy that doesn't listen to them.0

Perhaps not, but maybe people will actually have more money to spend.0

Its all about the corporations. They are the biggest profiteers off the government dollar. Our share as average Joe taxpayer is larger than corporations but who reaps the benefits and doesnt pay their fair share? Then any policy we make has to do with "them" not "us" as little Joe Citizen. Believe me.peacefrompaul wrote:SweetChildofMine wrote:Government spending starts with the biggest expense called the military complex. I think nearly everyone, left and right, understand that not paying taxes is illegal and you can go to jail as a result. People want to use the word 'steal' in relation to taxes, which to me makes it seem like you're going to go around feeling like a victim. For myself, I see taxes as necessary to function and focus frustration about it on particular spending I don't agree with.0

If I am not mistaken, isn't there ~60% in "social program" spending in the budget at the federal level...just saying...I may not fully understand how the budget works, but that seems like the lions share. If we spent nothing on dept of defense spending last year I think we would still have run a deficit.
I agree the military industrial complex is a problem however...there is a reason we were warned about it by an outgoing president. Money spent on active military campaigns needs to be stopped...that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders
