its hard to picture kurt at 45. what would he look like. would he be bald? would he have a short hair cut? would he still be making music, or would he have moved on to movies or be an author? What would that collab album with michael stipe have sounded like? What would the music he made in 2012 sound like as compared to the stuff in 1994? Would he be an acoustic singer songwriter solo? or would nirvana still exist? Would he be playing blues?
What would he make of the music scene in 2012? of gaga? and bieber? what would he make of arcade fire and radiohead? what would he make of pitchfork? indie rock?0

Happy Birthday, Kurt. I was only 3 when he died, so his death didn't have an impact on me then, but it sure does now. I can't imagine what I would be listening to today if I have never found Nirvana (I probably would have never started listening to PJ). He may be gone, but he and his music will never be forgotten.2013: Wrigley Field, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn 1, Brooklyn 2, Philly 1, Philly 2, Baltimore

I was thinking this same thing. He'd probably love gaga for her originality, and he'd say something like "Bieber seems like a nice kid, he can play the guitar, which is more than I can say for most pop artists today".
And then he'd rip Backspacer to SHREDS.Gimli 1993

A part of me thinks that Kurt would never have lived to be 45. He just seemed like he was destined to leave us too early.musicismylife78 wrote:its hard to picture kurt at 45. what would he look like. would he be bald? would he have a short hair cut? would he still be making music, or would he have moved on to movies or be an author? However, if he had survived I think Nirvana would have run its course after 1 more record and he would be solo now. Dave would still have wanted to release his own stuff so there is the possibility that the world's view of him would change from "The Nicest Man In Rock" to "The Asshole That Broke Up Nirvana"!
It would have been interesting to see Kurt take the Mark Lanegan approach to music - release solo albums but also follow his muse and record collaborations with different types of musicians. You know there would have been people queueing up to work with him. The Michael Stipe collaboration had so much potential, (their voices would be great together) and we know he recorded a whole album of Leadbelly covers with Lanegan that never got released.
Of course one added bonus is that we may have a slightly-less-insane Courtney if Kurt was still around...“Do not postpone happiness”

I'm in the minority. I like that record. What I have always found contradictory in Kurt's message is that he loved pop music of the 60's (Beatles), but he claimed he hated pop music of the 80's and 90's. But he WAS pop music of the 90's. And he fucking loved REM, the epitome of pop music.Gimli 1993

I have listened to everything he wrote. I have every book he contributed to, or published.
I have all his music, I have all the dvds, and I have met some musicians that played with him.
 inspired from a radio host
THANK YOU! But very sad about Andrew Wood
 So many things lost
So many GREAT things came after
Kurt really could smash gear, though 0 0

He and Nirvana was what got me into rock music, so I'm forever grateful. I had an insanely lucky moment on Tuesday, I was able to meet both Krist and Dave and also Pat Smear at the Sound City Players gig in London, and then as I went home the next day I realized it's Kurt's birthday...it was a really important moment for me. Even though I missed Nirvana when they were around (I was 8 when he died), they gave me the gift of loving music, which is still the best thing in my life and will continue to be that. So Happy Birthday, and I miss you.0

I was 9 when he died, I remember the news story on it and the music video shows here playing Unplugged songs.
I was too young to realise and appreciate how big he was, wish I was older then and a fan then.Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/20140

A week before he died, he was in Rome, I think. He overdosed on 60 or more qualudes , and almost died.
This drug is illegal in the U.S. because there is no valid reason to prescribe it.? I watched this like a car crash.
You don't want to see it, but you know it's going to happen, and you just watch in silence. He screamed for help, and there was no one there.
"Crown of Thorns", is so meaningful. I could quote Shelly, Krist's wife, " You are just a junkie, Kurt"
 He replied "Fuck You, Shelly!"
They tried, but it didn't really matter. Kurt is a very bad example of love gone bad. One of the last things he said about Frances, and he was super loaded, was "My own daughter doesn't even love me." She was 2 or 3 years old. The whole thing is a mess.
If he would have held on, I'd wish him happy birthday. 0 0

Yes I have found this to be contradictory as well. He was really wrapped up in the whole 80s punk underground vs. the mainstream battle. Yet he was signed to Geffen Records one of the biggest labels of its time. If there's one thing I can say about him is that he was a man of contradictions. And a man of great talent. And great sadness. I just hope he found the peace he couldn't have here .
