so we are travelling from north america to europe for pearl jam shows, starting with the 2 amsterdam, then the wercheter belgium, and prague and berlin shows

however we are not sure we will attend arras france, has anyone been to that festival before? it seems like all the europe festivals pj plays, arras france they have played 2 times? and both time the sets were real short by pj standards. and probably will play alot of their hit songs and not rare stuff? do people been to that festival before agree with this? we may rather spend a day sight seeing in prague before the prague show instead, but not sure. anyone really like the arras france festival? the other bands on the lineup dont interest me either

wercheter pj play a few times too and seem to get longer sets so between these 2 festivals atleast the belgium one is always better ya?????

i want to go to isle of wright but the tickets are no single days which sucks pj probably gets a 2 hour setist their probably longest setlist for a european fest this year anyway? but why no single day tickets, 3 days for almost 200 euro is crazy when i only really want to see pj on that festival. sucks iron maiden or black sabbath are not on it too, noel and high flying birds is ok but not worth 200 euro to me. amsterdam shows should be really good

but what everyone think about this arras france festival? it average at best the sets seem t be 90 mins at most there?

I know people will disagree with me but it's the worst show I've been to. The weekend had a bunch of electronic music therefore the crowd sucked. Was only 1 hour 30 min set if that...loads of hits nothing else.

Not to mention our tent got destroyed on our return back and we slept on the streets.

And it's an effort getting there as it's a train ride away from Paris.

Unless you are loaded n have the money to spend I wouldn't bother with PJ at festivals in Europe but then again look at Reading 2006 lol but that's more of a special festival than these other ones.
  • The only way I would go back to Arras is to do the same thing I did which was VIP tickets - which had its own food/drink tent - seating area and viewing platform - well worth the extra $.

It's a festival. It will be shit compared to the band doing their own headling show.

Yeah PJ at a festival doesn't really interest me anymore. That being said IOW looks fantastic this year and , in my opinion, well worth the money.

I think most festival shows PJ are gonna an hour and half slot, most headliners do.

Nice to see the Europeans bashing on the festivals, too! Maybe if we do it enough, they'll go back to doing their own gigs 95% of the time! I understand it's a money maker for them and luckily this time around for the Euro fans, PJ is playing more of their own gigs than festivals.

25 shows under my belt and the two festival shows are easily at the bottom of the list....Lolla 07' and Nijmegen 10'.

I bought them in 2010 from the festival site - I do remember they went on sale well after the general tickets as I already had GA before I bought the VIP.

  • It was a great show last time and its in a nice little square not on a field. Its a festival but it isn't a large one. Hopefully Pearl Jam will get a bigger time slot this time around but I'd take a kick ass 90 min show over a average 120+ show any day. I would say its worth going and the town is nice too with a wonderful ww2 grave nearby too.

    Wasnt at the show...but...

jammed the bootleg a few weeks ago...

besides it being a little short...it was still a rockin...
  • I think playing in the square of a small medieval town is part of the allure for me. Sure it may be a shorter set but I think it's going to be an awesome experience.

Eddie's shadow was projected onto a nearby church a few times. It was pretty cool to say the least. Great place for a different kind of show but chances are it will be a shorter set I would imagine. I'm not surprised they want to play there again.

Hi. Going to Arras for 3rd year. First time we went to see PJ. This time we were going anyway and PJ are a bonus :D . First year there were 4 of us, this year there are 13 of us

This gives a bit of an idea what it's like... short 2011 review

you can see the church DT talks about in the first pic. As already mentioned set was only 90 mins, however band energy and mood on stage were excellent. Crowd doesn't get too excited for any of the bands to be honst but it does mean a fairly relaxing stress free time in the close company of 40000 others. Setting is cool, and war memorial gives food for thought. Depends what your after really, Arras doesn't replicate a Euro indoor crowd that's for sure!!! Go with the right mindset however and it's deffo enjoyable........hope this helps

Taking my wife to Arras in 2010 was a blast. It's an easy 1hr train trip from Paris. The festival was a lot of fun and as the day goes on you'll see the % of PJ shirted people growing.
The set was short, but my wife wasn't comfortable in the mob (we were about 50 ft from Mike) so that was a blessing in disguise. I don't think she'd ever go again if it was 2+hrs of people bumping into you and trying to get closer tot he stage. We also got to see Ben Harper open, so that added to the cool factor.
The shadow on the church is really awesome and the people are nice (the French get a bad rap, nice peeps).
If you can go...I'd say go.
