$1250 for a 3 channel barely used half stack. Straight cab, smoke free pet free studio, never gigged. Is it a good deal? I'm drooling over this. Should I buy it?

I've never even really priced those, but that seems like steal.
edit....150w is a ton, always heard great things about Boogie cabs and the amps are legendary. The only thing that would scare me off is the wattage, but you can always attenuate.0 -
For that price is a steal. I had one Triple Rec In the past so don't wait. Still Have a cab and still love it.It's a great price. Go for it if you canWarsaw 96/11/01 ; Katowice 00/06/15, Katowice 00/06/16 ; Chicago 03/06/18 ; Chicago 06/05/16 ; Chicago 06/05/17 ; Chicago 07/08/05 ; Boston 08/06/30 ; Philadelphia 09/10/27 ; New York 10/05/20 ; New York 10/05/21 ; Alpine Valley 11/09/03 ; Alpine Valley 11/09/04 ; Wrigley Field 13/07/19 ; Pittsburgh 13/10/11 ; St.Louis 14/10/030

After looking into comparables, this looks like a steal. Of course you should be wary,a those things too good to be true...
With that said, I've always wanted one of those, so I'd say you should bite it and nab it while you can.0 -
Don't forget the cost of re-tubing the thing...6x6L6, 5x12AX7, 3x5U4 , yikes...E. Lansing-98 Columbus-00,03,10 Detroit-00,03 (1&2),06, 14 Cleveland-03,06,10 Toledo-04, Grand Rapids-04,06 London-05, Toronto-05, Indianapolis 10, East Troy (1&2) 11, Chicago 13, Detroit 14

well if you get it and you don't like it or it's too loud or whatever you can always sell it for whatever the going rate is.
always ask the seller why he is selling it. sometimes people need money fast and will just unload stuff and get what they can out of it rather than sit on it and wait to find someone to buy it for the going rate.
as someone said, don't forget the cost of retubing and biasing, and figure in an attenuator, which is at least another $300 for a thd hotplate...double that for a marshall power brake."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Hopefully you are playing theaters or arenas. That thing will probably shatter your windows if you play it in your house. hahahahahahahaMember 164xxx

Thanks guys. Its a dear friend of mine. He moved into a smaller place, doesnt play with his band anymore, bought a spider line 6 and wants some cash to buy a strat. I trust the guy 100% and we even loan each other our gear from time to time and get it back w/o any issues. The head alone would be $1000, might just use that with my Crate cab. Its from the early 90's can take upto 230w and has celestions. The retubing does scare me, its easily over $300 to do that.... but I love that tone.
Thanks for the advice everyone! :twisted:Pittsburgh, PA September 28, 2005 || Washington, DC June 22, 2008 || Barstow, VA May 13, 2010 || Seattle, WA August 10, 2018 || Dana Point, CA September 29, 2018 (EV) || Dana Point, CA September 28, 2019 (EV) || Dana Point, CA September 25, 2021 (EV) || Dana Point, CA October 1, 2021 || Dana Point, CA October 2, 2021 || Chicago, IL August 29, 2024 || Pittsburgh, PA May 16, 2025 || Pittsburgh, PA May 18, 20250 -

I dont even know what that means!
Not sure exactly how they work, but they're basically used to crank a tube amp, yet still play at a reasonable volume.
Personally, if I was gonna buy the amp, I'd dish out the extra $250 for the cab.Post edited by DewieCox on0 -

I dont even know what that means!Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0 -
here is a good explanation for what a power attenuator does...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_attenuator_(guitar)
and here is what i use...
Hot Plate power attenuator
The Hot Plate power attenuator was first released by THD in 1994.[1] It was designed to act as a type of master volume control for tube-based amplifiers, without sacrificing the distorted sounds such amplifiers make when they are played at full volume. The concept started in the late 1980s as a way to in-house test the company’s amplifiers without the technicians’ suffering hearing loss.[14]
The Hot Plate works by being installed between the amplifier and the speaker cabinet (if any is used), absorbing the majority of the signal from the amplifier and passing only a small amount to the speaker. The remaining power is converted to heat.[14] The UniValve and BiValve-30 amplifiers have Hot Plates built into them; the Flexi-50 has a foot-switchable master volume control in lieu of a Hot Plate. The Hot Plate is manufactured in five different colors; each color corresponds to the specific amplifier impedance that the Hot Plate is optimized for (the impedances should be matched.) The colors and impedances are: gold- 2 ohms, green- 2.7 ohms, red- 4 ohms, purple- 8 ohms, and blue- 16 ohms.
The Hot Plate has a Line Out jack, which can be used to send a DI signal to the mixer, or to insert equalization, time effects, and possibly a solid-state amplifier between the distorting tube power amp and the guitar speaker. The Line Out (or DI) signal can be blended with a miked guitar speaker at the mixing console. The Load setting enables using the Hot Plate as a pure dummy load, with no guitar speaker."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Very interesting.
EDIT: Got a THD Hotplate.Post edited by PSUS2H onPittsburgh, PA September 28, 2005 || Washington, DC June 22, 2008 || Barstow, VA May 13, 2010 || Seattle, WA August 10, 2018 || Dana Point, CA September 29, 2018 (EV) || Dana Point, CA September 28, 2019 (EV) || Dana Point, CA September 25, 2021 (EV) || Dana Point, CA October 1, 2021 || Dana Point, CA October 2, 2021 || Chicago, IL August 29, 2024 || Pittsburgh, PA May 16, 2025 || Pittsburgh, PA May 18, 20250 -
Do I need to bias the amp when replacing the 6L6 tubes ?Pittsburgh, PA September 28, 2005 || Washington, DC June 22, 2008 || Barstow, VA May 13, 2010 || Seattle, WA August 10, 2018 || Dana Point, CA September 29, 2018 (EV) || Dana Point, CA September 28, 2019 (EV) || Dana Point, CA September 25, 2021 (EV) || Dana Point, CA October 1, 2021 || Dana Point, CA October 2, 2021 || Chicago, IL August 29, 2024 || Pittsburgh, PA May 16, 2025 || Pittsburgh, PA May 18, 20250
