    to me it is Tuesday.

I think 90% is rounding up, don't you think? A lot of people out there don't celebrate.
maybe a little. seems like valentine's day is all i am hearing about lately, aside from whitney passing away. i will amend that to 90% of people in relationships or pursuing relationships with people they are crushing on are participating.

I think many of you are missing the good parts of Valentine's day.

The good part of Valentine's day is that it is a day when people practice doing the loving, giving, sweet things they should be doing most of the time if they want to be in a relationship where both people STAY in love. If you don't get Valentine's Day as an idea (and I don't mean the materialistic "buy, buy, buy" part) of Valentine's Day, you might be one of those people wondering why they fall out of love with their partners or their partners fall out of love with them when the relationship is no longer new.

Valentine's Day is just a day when people do MORE of what they should be doing all the time and that is: EXPRESSING LOVE for the people they love.

    Simple. That's all.

Skip the tacky cards. Skip the over-priced jewelry. Skip all the crap!

It's about expressing and cultivating the good feelings between people. (IMHO) :?

Our Valentines Day has never been about things ... I think this is true for others.

    It's remembering LOVE is all....
    pretty simple.

I guess some people just need a bit of reminding every once in a while. Whilst sharing your love is an every day thing and Valentine's day can be seen as just another commercial day (like mothers day, etc.), to some it might just make them stop, get away from the rut and think a bit. Maybe like a 'date night' between couples with long established relationships? Just time off the merry-go-round of daily life to touch ground again.

It doesn't mean anything to me but it does to my girlfriend. I suppose I take more notice of it lately because she is having medical issues that people should not have at that age, could be very serious, so I appreciate the time I have with her.

With the threat of not having another one of these "holidays" together it does mean something to me just to be with her.

 I understand where you're coming from justam, I just think it's too bad that too many people need to be reminded to show love for the ones they love. If you truly love someone, you'd show it just about every day.

And this made up holiday actually makes those who don't have a special someone feel particularly bad. How is this justified?

to quote Maxwell, 'this is for lovers only'. I could take it or leave it~ don't love someone more or less just because it's Valentine's Day. Just an additional reason to show a little extra, a few more kisses, take the trash out.

Amen, sister. To all of that, amen.

(as an aside, I really miss the Valentine's cards my parents would send me when I was a kid. Actually, my dad did until he died, and my mom still does - different sentiments exchanged going from child to adult, but no matter. Don't care which day of the year I get them, I'll always embrace expressions of love and affection from those important to me)

Jeanwah, I agree with you too :)

    I had to laugh.

As with any external like I post, this has no nudity but some pretty harsh language. We're on the Pearl Jam fan site, I expect people who can handle the "f" word without losing their "s." But your boss may be different, so wait til you get home to watch it.

I certainly don't want people to feel BAD. Yikes!

I guess it's all how a person approaches it. Children enjoy it as a friendship day. ( For example, I sometimes receive cards and candy from my students.) It can be just for fun too!
