I'll second the motion for sitting down and remaining quiet and not hollering anything stupid or yelling for songs at the stage. Those guys can derail a show completely, it's infuriating.

it's a really special night and you're gonna love it :)
  • It's definitely a hell of a lot more intimate than a regular PJ concert, the venues are always kind of older style but beautiful as well. He plays for almost 3 hours with just a short break

They're a lot of fun, Ed's a great story teller and he will have you laughing your ass off. Add that to his awesome musical talent, and it makes for a very entertaining evening.

I have not been to a solo show but will be trying TM on Friday for Jacksonville.
Do you think the shows are calm enough to take a 10 year old. I go my oldest daughter
hooked on PJ and loves to listen with me and thinking of taking her as special treat to the
show if I can get tix. Any help insight would be great.
I took my son at 10 during the Into the Wild solo tour. Only problem is how high it set the standards for his future concert-going!
He enjoyed it very much - of course I made sure he knew the album ahead of time. He's now my PJ concert buddy and was excited to see Ed solo again in Long Beach with me last year.

    +1

My fella and I had back row seats - during 'Hard Sun' the house lights were up and felt like Ed was performing just for us. Lots of laughs and mateship in the crowd - the blokes next to me kept turning to me in awe ("Is he serious?") as Ed covered topics such as opening fan-mail, hanging out at one of our local beaches, Yield/'Give Way' signs, Sean Penn and his work with APJ, and how the two WA states should swap weather for a day (*crowd boos*).

He's great in concert. I've seen him twice last year and only wanted more. You'll never regret seeing him live. His voice was in great form and he performed all the songs I particularly wanted to hear. Arc was simply stunning, way better than on record.

Other than on some bootlegs, I've never had the pleasure as of yet to hear Eddie V. solo. But, I was recently listening to the Chicago Auditorium Theater show in 2008. Here's an excerpt from the dialogue Eddie had with the audience following the first two songs. Eddie's comments follows some annoying interruptions by some boisterous few as Eddie is trying to "set the mood"...

"I'll just clarify...don't, don't even bother yelling out songs tonight, just don't even fucking bother, because...

And, here's the deal, and I'm gonna say it quick, right?

You know, I don't know if you've heard of this band, umm...uh, Pearl Jam...I don't know if you've heard of this band.

They actually put out a few good things over the past few years, but...you know what?
I've been doing, I do set lists in that band, for 17-18 years I've been doing set lists in that band, so...

I fucking know what I'm doing with the set lists! All Right? I don't need any help!

I don't need help, from any fucking rookies...I just...Not tonight, all right?

And, to, uh...to add to that, I'm gonna play shit that you couldn't even fucking imagine!

I'm gonna, I'm gonna play songs that I didn't even know that I knew.
In fact, I might not even...know them...we're gonna find out!" -- E. Vedder

    Classic, just classic!

I was at that show, and I LOVED that he started it off by saying that, because most of the jerks yelling stuff out shut up after he said that, and it was a fantastic show.

The shows are fantastic. So intimate, it really feels more like an experience than a concert if that makes any sense.

My advice is to lose yourself in the music and not pay too much attention to what the rest of the crowd is doing. Unless they are really cool and rocking, of course. There have been too many stories of people letting other people ruin their nights. There will be meatheads yelling and their will be people tweeting, but don't let it get in the way of what you want to do.

Easy Street Queen Anne, I MISS YOU ALREADY! Thanks Matt
  • You ever have one of those nights, where you're sitting around with your friends on the porch, drinking beer, passing the guitar around and playing whatever pops into your head?

It's sort of like that, except one of your friends is Eddie Vedder, and he hogs the guitar.

Dont forget his wicked dry-humour. He could do a night of stand-up - sans music - and I would still pay to see it.

Doesnt enjoy anyone "stealing the silence" either.

I haven't been to his solo show (:(), but I've watched a few of them on youtube, etc, and it seems to me that, aside from being a show performed by the best musical artist in the history of the world, it is really intimate, and peaceful. And yes, I saw the footage about the people in the audience "stealing the silence," lol. "Hey you! Drop the silence right now!" haha. Because of the nature of most of his solo work, he likes people to really just shut up and take in the music rather than whoot and whoo hoo their way through it, as it seems really distracting and obnoxious amidst that intimate atmosphere he sets up... and I got that just from watching it on a screen - even that seems magical, so I can only imagine how amazing it is in person! Oh man, I wish he were bringing the tour to Vancouver this year! I NEED to see him live!
