So what are the Ed Solo shows like anyway?

You know how every once in a while, Eddie comes out before the opening act and plays one song... just him and his guitar?
Well, you pretty much get to see everyone of those song is one shot. Plus, you get a lot of other great stuff. You don't have to catch multiple shows because the setlists are pretty much the same... but, Eddie is different every night because he talks about what happened that day or the night before. So, you might get to hear about some naked guy, drying his balls in the locker room at the gym or other odd tale that can only be told with Eddie's dry humor.
Even if you don't go to multiple shows... you should at least, catch one.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

It's about 1/5 as good as Pearl Jam...
JUST KIDDING - it's awesome. Much more intimate...moments during the show where you can hear a pin drop (as long as some douche isn't yelling out "LEASH!"). Nice blend of PJ tunes, solo stuff, and covers, as well as a little storytelling thrown in. Ed really goes all out to connect with the audience and like RKCNDY said, you can "feel" it...not just the sound and music, but the emotions and energy as well.
Glad to see Glen is coming back as the opener too!Osaka, Japan (2/21/95), San Diego (7/10/98), Las Vegas (10/22/00), San Diego (10/25/00), Las Vegas (6/6/03), Las Vegas (7/6/06), Los Angeles (7/9/06), VH1 Rock Honors (7/12/08), Ed Solo (7/8/11), Ed Solo (11/1/12), Los Angeles (11/23/13)0 -
Amazing!! When he sang Long Road and Throw Your Arms Around Me- I literally cried. Eddie rocked out to Unthought Known and so did the crowd. It was a great night, well worth seeing.0

I would note two things.
First is something observable: that the selection of songs is very different. He plays a lot of songs from the PJ library that really only feature him, and given how short PJ tours are nowadays, he probably doesn't want to hog the spotlight in tour. I'm pretty sure he only does PJ songs that he wrote himself. He does his kick ass covers, and his solo albums of course. He changes up the pace a bit and people sit down for most of the show.
The unobservable: He's less Eddie Vedder and more like your buddy Ed. Not that he ever tries, but with PJ, he just comes across as a MF rockstar. Solo, he comes across as a guy... Someone there to hang out with you, and get moved by his friends as much as his music moves you.0 -

lots of surprising covers too - he did Hurt in SB!0 -
Thanks everybody. I am now officially STOKED to see this show. I once read where someone on here posted that they wouldn't want to see one fifth of Pear Jam. I don't know why I let that stick with me, but any qualms I had that were tied to that are now gone.* Oklahoma City Ford Center - Apr 03, 2003

At the 2008 NJPAC show, Ed talked about Unthought Known and he had supposedly just written it the night before. Who knows if that's actually true but it was awesome to hear it for the first time! And he tried to take questions from the audience, one guy yelled out, "Tell us the words to Yellow Ledbetter" and Ed was like, "You mean to tell me that after all these years, that there are words to that song?" LoL
Plenty of banter.
Aw man, now I wish I were going to one of these shows. Jealous...0 -

If he plays Man of the Hour I will likely be BAWLING. That song took on a whole new meaning for me when I lost my dad back in August. Man, I HATE crying in front of my wife.* Oklahoma City Ford Center - Apr 03, 2003

Don't text or take pictures, don't yell out song requests and you'll be fine. Go to LiveNation or Ticketmaster, search for Eddie Vedder, and read the reviews from past shows. Everyone agrees, he's incredible!
Saw him in Hartford last year, and I can't wait to see him again in Phoenix!0 -
You will not be disappointed, for Ed gives his all. Saw him the night that Water on the Road was recorded in DC, and am lucky to be able to relive the moments from that amazing evening via the DVD. It's Ed your friend, telling stories in the living room. Funny banter and revealing dialogue, mixed with intimate vocals. Wishing you all so much fun and great memories.Post edited by forester on0

Please don't yell "I LOVE YOU EDDIE!!!!!!"
Why does some dude always yell that ....0 -
Other than on some bootlegs, I've never had the pleasure as of yet to hear Eddie V. solo. But, I was recently listening to the Chicago Auditorium Theater show in 2008. Here's an excerpt from the dialogue Eddie had with the audience following the first two songs. Eddie's comments follows some annoying interruptions by some boisterous few as Eddie is trying to "set the mood"...
"I'll just clarify...don't, don't even bother yelling out songs tonight, just don't even fucking bother, because...
And, here's the deal, and I'm gonna say it quick, right?
You know, I don't know if you've heard of this band, umm...uh, Pearl Jam...I don't know if you've heard of this band.
They actually put out a few good things over the past few years, but...you know what?
I've been doing, I do set lists in that band, for 17-18 years I've been doing set lists in that band, so...
I fucking know what I'm doing with the set lists! All Right? I don't need any help!
I don't need help, from any fucking rookies...I just...Not tonight, all right?
And, to, uh...to add to that, I'm gonna play shit that you couldn't even fucking imagine!
I'm gonna, I'm gonna play songs that I didn't even know that I knew.
In fact, I might not even...know them...we're gonna find out!" -- E. Vedder
Classic, just classic!Posimists. Fuck the pessimists...fuck'em.0 -
Amazing.
I would consider it a different experience from a Pearl Jam concert. I really enjoyed it because it gives Eddie an outlet for his more acoustic, folksy side. He'll bust out some pretty good covers as well. It's a much more intimate setting than a Pearl Jam concert, and the audience gets a better connection with Eddie, as he'll tell some stories in between songs, and bring out people like Glen Hansard and the string quartet.
My favorite part was when Eddie unplugged the Ukelele, and Glen and Eddie sang "Sleepless Nights" without any mics.Member Number: 437xxx

Highlight for me was Sometimes opening and Porch towards the end. The energy at the beginning was mindblowing with the crowd clapping and stamping along and the ovation for Porch was also out of this world.
It will be interesting to see how Ed mixes the set up this time around!?Melbourne #1 '98

I have not been to a solo show but will be trying TM on Friday for Jacksonville.
Do you think the shows are calm enough to take a 10 year old. I go my oldest daughter
hooked on PJ and loves to listen with me and thinking of taking her as special treat to the
show if I can get tix. Any help insight would be great.0 -

The few I've been to, I would have no problem taking a kid that age as long as you're ok with them hearing Ed use "fuck" in every other sentence.
And to the OP...my idea of how good a concert could be was forever changed after seeing Ed solo.0
