I'm kind of torn on Goats Head Soup. It has some really great songs, like Angie, Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker), Star Star, 100 Years Ago, Silver Train etc. But it doesn't really work as an album for me. It's kind of all over the place, which can be good, but it just seems like a collection of songs instead of an album. Especially coming after Exile which seemed so cohesive.
I especially hate the way the 2009 remaster was treated. I don't really know who is to blame, but Star Star is really screwed up, and it's my favorite track on the album. When it first came out the "I bet you keep your pussy clean" line was edited terribly to where it sounded like the album was skipping. The official story was that they accidentally used the U.S. radio version (how did they not catch that in the re-mastering process if ANYBODY was paying attention?) but was "fixed" in later runs of the CD. I got a version that doesn't have that edit, but now near the end of the song for the line that says "Yeah, I'm makin' bets that you gonna get John Wayne before he dies" is edited. The levels on the guitars suddenly get very loud and it drowns out the line. So it is still edited. I don't know if they've fixed that now also, but it seems very intentional. If it wasn't edited in '73, or for the CD release in '94, why on Earth would it be edited in 2009?"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

Interesting, I did not know that. Gotta listen to the remaster again. Will you be getting the Some Girls reissue? The most recent remaster sounded good enough that I'm not sure how much more the sound can be improved. But I hope it's worth it considering those extra outtake tracks.0 -

I ordered the numbered CD case with the guitar picks, keychain, buttons, and of course both discs."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
Got the "Some Girls Live In Texas '78" DVD/CD set today, just finished watching it, it's pretty awesome. I wish I hadn't been -2 years old at the time and could have been there. Can't believe something this awesome has just been collecting dust for 33 years."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0

I wouldn't go that far. Taylor's guitar playing on "Ladies & Gentlemen" is mind-blowing. And being a way bigger fan of Exile than Some Girls, I prefer a show from the Exile era than from '78. So musically I don't like it as much, but just from a film aspect it might edge L&G out. Comparing the two is like apples and oranges though, as they are such different periods in their history, from tours supporting such different albums."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
Some rumors floating around on the Stones message boards that "Get Your Leeds Lungs Out" (Live at Leeds 1971) is going to be one of the Archive series.
Same goes for El Mocambo 1977. We know they recorded that whole show, and the product was good because some of the tracks made it on "Love You Live" and the opening band was April Wine who used the Stones mobile recording studio to release their opening set as their "Live At El Mocambo" album.
I would love both of those shows. There is also rumor that one of the shows is a Detroit show, either '69 or '78, but they weren't sure. I'm not sure where this information is coming from, the person was being pretty cryptic and might be full of it. I would imagine it would be the '69 show though, since they just released a show from the '78 tour on CD/DVD."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
Holiday Greetings from Keef
Edit: Of course Mick couldn't be outdone by Keith, so now he put one up."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

10. Let Me Go
11. Time Is On My Side
12. Beast Of Burden
13. Waiting On A Friend
14. Let It Bleed
15. You Can't Always Get What You Want

This is the infamous concert where the "crazed fan" ran on stage during Satisfaction and Keith hit him with his guitar. So when the guitar goes all crazy and there's feedback, it's not a mistake, it's just Keith wielding his guitar like a club.

Don't worry, Keith bailed the guy out of jail.

That's one great looking setlist! I assume it'll be up for sale at the Archives store soon?0

Yeah, I think with Brussels Affair it was the next day or something, just long enough so that Google Music could say it had the "Exclusive".
It is a pretty good set, and it sounds great. I think 4 of these tracks appeared on "Still Life", but they sound much better here. Bob Clearmountain did an excellent mixing job. I probably prefer Brussels Affair due to Mick Taylor's guitar work, but this has a whole lot more tracks, better overall selection."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
MysteryTrain, the Stones site sent out a message that Hampton would be going up on the StonesArchive site for the International fans "imminently", so keep an eye out.
Edit: OK, it's up now

funny, I just started really getting into the Stones lately, buying each album and very much enjoying hearing things other than the radio songs that I know well.
Thanks so much for pointing me to the bootlegs!!0 -

Hope you enjoy them. Brussels Affair is probably one of the best Stones live releases ever. Mick Taylor's guitar work is crazy good. I'm really liking this Hampton '81 show, but by this time The Stones were a very different band. Still good music and a very good concert to have, but the Stones in the 60s/70s and The Stones from the 80s or the present are like apples and oranges.
I love that they're doing these archive releases though, very exciting.
Some shows I'm still hoping to see:
Leeds University '71
Back Strap Jacket - Live In Australia '73
El Mocambo '77
And of course something from the Brian Jones era."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

I am enjoying them a lot. Have to say that seeing "Ladies And Gentlemen" on tv last year got me started, just picked that up on dvd. Also reading Keith's book, my girlfriend got it for me for Christmas and that is giving a lot of background on the songs and albums and tours. Great rock and roll history.0 -

Yeah, "Ladies And Gentlemen" was amazing. Have you checked out "Some Girls: Live In Texas '78" yet? Even though I'm a bigger fan of the Taylor era, and Jones era than Ronnie Wood era, it's a great DVD/CD set. Like I said earlier, comparing one era to another is like apples and oranges, but it is visually a great film, and musically pretty good too. Lots of energy, I'm sure partly supplied by cocaine but also from the small venue. Mick is completely insane in that show."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
Listening to the Hampton show now. The mix is great, which is more or less the same as Brussels Affair. Love the whole loose, raw vibe to the songs.0

Yeah, Bob Clearmountain (who mixed both Brussels and Hampton, as well as Texas '78 and hopefully the 4 remaining shows) did an excellent job with these recordings. I've heard the raw soundboard of Hampton, and heard the audio that was from the PPV broadcast of this show, and he definitely made it come alive. Even the tracks that have seen an actual CD release on "Still Life" (Let's Spend The Night Together is the only one I know for sure comes from the same show) sound so much better on this release. So it's even an improvement over the official (and remastered in 2009) live release. Bob Clearmountain recorded and mixed "Still Life" also, but I guess he's learned quite a bit since '81 or he has better equipment/technology to work with.
I've always heard the '81 tour was great, but for those of us that weren't there all we had as a document was "Still Life", which just wasn't that great. Only 10 songs (4 of which were covers) and not a very good selection. And the recording just doesn't have much life to it. Lots of people had hoped that if they released an '81 show it would have been Kansas City, because Mick Taylor joined them for that show. But Taylor wasn't plugged into the soundboard, just the PA system. So on the soundboard recordings you can only hear Ronnie and Keith, and I haven't heard an audience recording that was even somewhat salvageable to create an official release out of."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

Man, i would like to hear that KC show with Mick Taylor. HOPING Mick Taylor is with them during the 50th Anny Tour.
I have 2 soundboard shows from 1981( Both Philly shows). They were the first 2 shows of the tour. SBD is good, but the performance was just ok. I was at the first show, and was about 5 yards from the stage.0
