Thanks! The Ottawa poster was done at Michael's and the mat color was
    Electric Blue BC9888.

The regular Ottawa one you did looks awesome (the dark blue). Did you do it yourself or have it professionally done? I have the same one that I have been waiting to get framed. Any idea what colour of blue you used for the mat?

That's really cool. Like I said I have that poster and I was kind of worried a blue mat would be too much, and I was thinking of just using a white mat. But yours shows that blue looks really good. Unfortunatly going to michaels was out of my price range (at least based on what they charge in Canada) so I was going to use American Frame. They don't have the exact blue you used, but I think I will just try one that is close and go for it.

    Hi guys,
What is the most inexpensive way to get these posters framed? I have roughly 15 posters from shows I went to that I want to frame for my office. Is Michael's my most inexpensive option?

Thanks, I didnt feel like combing through 333 pages on this thread so I figured I'd just ask

Back in the fall I gave american frame a try. It is basically a do it yourself place where you order your materials online and put them together at home. It is super easy and I would say at least half the cost of what you would pay at michael's (at least Canadian michael's). Plus anything over $50 is free shipping in the US.

I use american frame. they are cheap compared to frame shops, but a frame and mat usually averages $75 for me.....times 15 = a bit of an outlay.

Yea if you are going to be framing 15 posters it will be a bit of an expense to do all at once. On the other hand, the 2011 Ottawa poster I have I think Michael's quoted me $240 (if not more) for a metal frame and single mat while I have a frame for that poster in my cart at american frame right now for $106. I it would be nice to have the money for a pro framer but for me it is hard to justify paying over 200 bucks to frame a poster that cost me $35.

Now, I'm not knocking American Frame here, but personally I go to michael's for 2 reasons:

    1. I find putting together the frame myself frustrating, time consuming, and I'm never quite happy with the results... I can never seem to get the image set just right like a good professional can do.

    2. The glass at michael's. Last time I ordered a frame from American Frame (which was over 2 years ago now), they only offered the acrylic stuff, which I don't like. I like the real glass in my frames... and I find michaels is the only place that has the glass at a reasonable price. Even the other local frame shops I checked out can't compete with the pricing on the high-end glass cause they don't get that many requests for it - so they have to custom order it and then it gets pricey...

However, American Frame is a great alternative if you're big into do-it-yourself style arts and crafts, and have more patience than me. ;)

Michael's is great if you have the budget for it. My 05 Ottawa poster and my 03 Toronto were both done there and while the cost was pretty steep they look awesome. That said I had both of those done at a time before I had a wife, a baby and a mortgage. Not it is a bit harder to drop the kind of cash it takes to take posters there (especially when the baby needs diapers and the gas bill needs to be paid). Especially since it seems that the posters I get are getting bigger (the 2011 Ottawa is huge) and the prices at Michaels are genearlly getting higher too.
  • Just came back from the local frame shop a very happy customer! :D

Nope, I kinda see room for one more right under that Billboard :D
  • Looks awesome yet again Dave. I plan on doing something very similar with billboard print, but putting 3 pictures that I took under it. One when it was just started, one with me and my wife in the picture when it was nearly done, and one I took walking about of Alpine Sunday night when it was all done.

I thought I read that you missed out on the billboard print though? Obviously I'm thinking of someone else?
