Might be kinda cool to hear what they came up with, too.___________________________________________

I was hoping to maybe see eddie show up in atlantic city this summer, ed was in philly while dave was in ac. Many posters on this thread bang on daves fans, and rightly so, a lot of angry, toughguy, bandwaggon fans. People here just dont like dmb, thats fine, they are a clear #2 favorite in my book.
A collaboration would be interesting. Not gunn give my left nut to hear it, but im sure id like it if they did.0 -

Not only do I refuse to get drunk at concerts, I think it says volumes about the type of people come out to the shows.
PJ shows are FULL of frat boy and meatheads. been to plenty of shows where you could have mistaken the crowd for a DMB crowd. just saying...0 -

again, not defending DMB, but you are wearing your PJ blinders big time in this thread.
drunk, rambling into the mic? sounds like the eddie vedder we have grown to love over the years0 -

Wow, sorry man, hate to say it, but I couldn't think of a worse collaboration. Not just because I can't stand DMB, but Ed is above and beyond him on a musical level and are two totally different styles IMO.
I like a few DMB songs, but this band will always be thought by me of being a "cult" band for kids in college.

sorry, its not that I don't like Dave's music, but their styles are so different I can't imagine it working.
I would like to see any of the following though, something more than singing back up or jumping on stage for a song.
Ed and Michael Stipe. I think these two really like and respect each other
Ed and Pete Townshend
Ed and Beck (caught them on the one song at BS this year)
Ed and John Doe
Ed and Patti Smith
I am sure there are tons more that would be cool. I've seen DMB numerous times since my wife like them (and lows me to go to 40+ PJ shows) and we live in the home of the Dave. I do like it when he plays with just Tim. TR is one bad ass guitar player.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
ride"!

I'm not a huge DMB fan or anything. I don't hate them, but I also never listen to them. That said, I just needed to point out how ridiculous your "cult" statement is.
You do realize PJ has one of the biggest cult followings on the planet, and you seem to be a part of it.9/13/1998 - 9/15/1998 - 8/29/2000 - 7/2/2003 - 7/3/2003 - 7/11/2003 - 9/28/2004 - 9/28/2005 - 5/13/2006 - 5/27/2006 - 6/1/2006 - 6/28/2008 - 6/30/2008 - 5/17/2010 - 10/25/20130 -
First post has proven to be an adversarial one- DMB draws a lot of hate from people on this board. As much enjoyment that can be drawn from music and as much bad music as there is out there... a music fan should be able to distinguish the solid qualities DMB offers (respect is warranted even if you haven't acquired the taste).
IMO, they are excellent. Their crowds do differ somewhat from PJ crowds, but to say that DMB fans are mostly goofballs while PJ fans are true connoisseurs of music is either pompous or narrow-minded to say the least. Trust me when I say I have been irritated by 'huge PJ fans' as many times as DMB fans.
I'm sure Eddie and Dave have respect for each other."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

In a way...that kinda describes Ed, only he drinks classy wine (about $50 per bottle, at a place near my house.) Note that I don't know what Dave drinks. For all I know, it's shitty beer or expensive champagne.
I do think that Glorified G and Elderly Woman sort of "fit" Dave's style of music, but other than that, they're worlds apart.Post edited by Lost In Ohio onPresidential Advice from President-Elect Mike McCready: "Are you getting something out of this all encompassing trip?"0 -

Wow first let me say thanks for all the responses. I completely understand the many opinions posted so far. As far as not liking Dave, I truly appreciate aesthetic differences and questions of taste are well always going to be debated (My roommate in college used to say Dave sounded like a muppet and Eddie was indecipherable). I would say we agree to disagree. I particularly appreciate the views on how the two singers sounds are so different and think that would make for part of the dynamic. Some of the greatest compilations have come from unlikely pairings.
I do think it is interesting to see how similar some (certainly not all) of their influences are shared. (Beatles, Dylan, Neil, Cash, Marley) I was in the mud at ACL to see both bands (on separate nights) and was thinking how cool it would be to hear them together. I was recently watching PJ20 and Dave in Europe and thinking about how their sounds had evolved so much over the years from my first experiences with them. I used to teach classes called One Sweet World:The politics and poetry of Dave Matthews, and Act UP! The Power of Protest Performance with Pearl Jam and I realized how much the artists had in common in the themes of their lyrics and in the political views they held. They are the Jungian archetypes of my generation the dark angst ridden poet who captures the seething undercurrent of rage of disgruntled middle class Americans and the happy live life in the moment troubador who sings about our desire to revel and party like there is no tomorrow. But over time there music has come closer after the murder of Dave's sister and his bout with depression his music took on deeply dark overtones of Bartender and Big Eyed Fish and with Eddie's age came the mellow beauty of such songs as Just Breathe and Society.
Many of you have mentioned their concert experience, which is of course the purest form of their music. I don't consider myself a concert veteran (with only 11 PJ shows and 23 DMB/D&T/Dave solo shows) compared to the many of you who have posted, but I think seeing their shows is the closest thing to a religious experience in my life. I started out as a drunken college student at their shows but have since gone on to take my students to them and sit in the fan club seats (away from the drunks on the lawn) and now as the father of two boys (4 yrs old, and 9 months old) I look forward to being able to take them as well. I believe the point I was trying to make that it seems hard to find two performers who have lasted and still have a broad appeal to fans both young and veteran. I look forward to more of your posts.

Not even close. Dave is about 5x the guitar player that Ed is. Ed is mostly open chords and beginner level finger picking.0 -

InHiding19 wrote:Your telling me Phish has done less than Dave. What about selling 80,000 ticekts to festivals with only them on the bill. Last I checked Dave's fest had a full bill of other bands. Plus Dave sucks. Ed wouldn't be caught dead with him.
Ticket sales are not for me the full measure of a band's artistry, and I certainly would not want to use this forum as a DMB apologia but...

I love Phish as well and truly enjoyed watching Trey and Dave together.

Kanye it's funny you mention that. I have been a fan club member for a while now and a fan even longer and I just never thought to post even while teaching my classes on the bands and going to shows. Call it a sad oversight. Lately I have become something of a political oped writer and thought, I should probably post on my favorite music sites and share with my fellow fans and PJ family.
