What are PJ's best boots?

Time to start the erosion of the savings account and buy up some boots...it's despicable that I don't have a single one.

Where do I start? What are your favorites and why? Which boots do I ABSOLUTELY need to have?

Any MSGs, Hartfords, or Bostons are wonderful.
  • State College PA '03 is good. one of the longest shows ever. release opener. some covers, some classics.

Philly 10/05 is pretty good too. some rare gems

the gorge 05/06 & benaroya are great "official" releases for starters.. if you're looking for something more recent, google has the 9/11/11 show for free & there are other places that have free shows.. hamilton 9/15/11 is good, shows from the backspacer tour 5/17/10,5/18/10,5/20/10,5/21/10,6/25/10, or you could go with the philly 09 box. if you buy the avacado cd here you get a show from 12/31/92 that is classic...soooo many to choose from. once you start, you won't stop. i'm up 2 about 150 or so. from 1990-2011.every tour/show is different. check out setlists, too. good luck! kufala is super fast, by the way.
doc martens are awesome, too. i've got 3 different styles!

+1. Hartford 2008 is pretty damn good.

For one's that aren't in the goods:

    Atlanta 2 1994
    Soldier Field 1995
    MSG 2 1998
    Seattle 2 2000
    Nassau 2003
    Buffalo 2003
    State College 2003

I love it. As a born and bred Manhattanite, the fact that MSG shows get so many nods is awesome. Best place in the world to call 'home'
  • I too am a born and bred New Yorker, and love the MSG shows, but, for my money, there is no better boot than the State College, PA '03 that has been mentioned several times. It goes on forever, includes a multitude of great covers and the longest (non-Ed solo show) Ed accoustic set I can remember.

I'm also partial to Columbus, OH '10 (because I was there :) - and they opened w/Oceans) and Perth, Australia, '09 (Breakerfal opening is killer, Garden, Red Mosqiutto w/Ben Harper and Throw Your Arms Around Me w/Liam Finn).

Of course, you really can't go wrong with any boot - it's all PJ, after all!

I will make it to MSG for Pearl Jam one day!

Had the Newcastle Feb '92 boot on in the car this morning. I was far too young to be into PJ at the time, but if there was one gig I could have attended, seeing PJ up here would be the one. Sound quality is really good on this show (for it's age) too!

London 25/6/10 is the best boot for a show I've been to

It's actually Mansfield 03' that is the three disc boot with the super long acoustic set that they played prior to the sleater kenny set. Pen State is still a classic though. I love when they start taking requests from the audience and then make an attempt at Satan's Bed. It's also usually pretty easy to find on e-bay for a decent price.

Of the newer boots I would say grabbing the Philly 09 boot set is a great way to start any collection.

You're right - Mansfield has the very long accoustic set (though, PSU has some accoustic, as well), but both shows are actually 3-disc boots. Probably the two longest shows ever - I have both, but Mansfield, for some reason, has never grabbed my attention the way Penn State always has? But like you summized, both classics!

Is there a 2006 Torino Italy boot?

That played all of the Avocado album (in order)?

That seems like a great place to be as a avid fan of that album.
