cool. 8-) I'll have to check this out. "Burn Burn" was a fantastic album. Only seen them live once back in 98 at a festival, but really enjoyed them.

they have been annoying since Naveed, which was a killer album (although I liked Monkey Brains off Burn Burn, cause it sounded like a punk song). I'm always willing to give them another shot. Just waiting for them to go through the "we need to get back to our roots" (AKA make Naveed 2) thing that all bands eventually do.

His wife is from my hometown. I had no idea they met at a PJ show though! Any idea where?

Too right, this is amazing, a return to form. I love Naveed, but think Gravity is a great album, I never got into the last 2 albums.

Gotta say I rather like that. I was a huge fan of theirs for the first three or four albums but they haven't done much for me for awhile. Based on this song though I'll definitely check out the new album.

I liked Happiness... Spiritual Machines and Clumsy. The rest was okay, but not as strong in my opinion.

we'll see how that goes. they tried the old "let's tour doing full album shows". They scheduled 2 dates in each city, and had to cancel most of the second dates, and the first dates didn't sell out. These were 1500 seaters. This band, I believe, is done.

I really dug Raine's solo album. And his live show was awesome.

New single is pretty good but doesn't touch early OLP. I wasn't a fan of Burn Burn at all with the exception of 2 or 3 tracks. Naveed, Clumsy, Happiness and SM I can listen to over and over all the way through. Even Gravity topped BB imo although everyone thinks they sold out with that one. But Ive seen them every time they've played Connecticut since they became a band and the Gravity tour was by far some the most amazing shows Ive ever attended (PJ included) See them when they come to your town.

I was fortunate enough to see them a couple of times on the gravity tour over here in the UK and i thought they put on some incredible shows too. I took along a few friends who'd never heard of them and they loved them. Yes Gravity could be considered to be quite a commercial album, however I'd rather think of it as just a great rock album in the vein of Naveed with barely a bad song on it and I personally love it.

Not true on cancelling most of the 2nd dates...and, I know they did 3 sold out nights in Vancouver and 2 sold out nights in Victoria. 2 sold out nights in Toronto as well, I was told.
I disagree with your opinion that the band is done. Is the music the same as Naveed or Clumsy were? No. But, PJ isn't the same as Ten, either. ;-)
OLP have evolved into a stronger band lyrically and playing live, in my opinion. I, too, am a long-time fan and am looking forward to their 2012 new stuff.

well I know they cancelled many of the second shows, stating "scheduling conflicts". no, their music isn't the same as Naveed and Clumsy. I give any band props for actually evolving. problem is, they evolved very briefly and then completely stagnated. everything after Happiness has been the same old same old. If they did something different, it might actually be good. And even every band Raine produces sounds like OLP. I'd NEVER hire that guy to produce my music. I don't care how big a name he is. He ruined Inward Eye, a promising young punk band out of Winnipeg. Even to the point of the lead singer doing some of Raine's patented "hiiiiiiiiiiiiEEEEEE". brutal.

Evolved lyrically? I couldn't care less about lyrics if the music is good, as long as it isn't misogynistic crap like Nickelback. But it's all the same old cookie cutter radio fodder.

In my opinion, this band hit their plateau a long time ago. I'll still always give them a chance, because you never know when they'll come out with a kick ass album. I just don't see it.

OLP was one of my favourite bands. Once Mike Turner left and they stopped producing with Lanni they started manufacturing turds. The 2000s albums, (Post Spiritual Machines, as that was their pinnacle.) have maybe one or two tracks that are good on each of them, showing a small glimpse of the fact they can still write rock songs, though they do prefer to pen music for twelve year old girls these days.

Monkey Brains was a big step in the right direction, unfortunately the rest of Burn Burn was top 40 drivel. Heavyweight sounds incredible in the verse, with the return of the falsetto and weird chunky OLP style riffs that aren't just U2 ripoff drones. The problem is the chorus goes into a Gravity feel, so you get a taste of the old OLP before they slap you in the face with mediocrity. I hope that Clumsy/SM tour really shines through on this album, you can see Heavyweight has a tinge of the old days, and is the most promising SINGLE they have put out in over a decade.

EDIT - How ANYONE can say OLP has evolved lyrically is beyond me! The first four albums sure, but when they started working with Bob Rock he actually changed Raines lyrics and told him to make them more superficial so more people could understand them. If anything the lyrics are what has taken the biggest hit.
