i'm impressed this thread is still going lol

i also LOVE xmas music. every nov 1st i put them on my ipod... i look forward to it as much as i do the pumpkin spice lattes at starbucks every fall lol but having one of my favourite bands/singers make a christmas album seems wrong. christmas albums, to me, always seemed like such money grabbers; a singers attempt at gaining a quick buck... and that's my biggest issue with pearl jam doing one. they've never been the type of band to produce something just for financial gain. they've always seemed to care about their work and their fans opinions.

now with that being said, if they donated all the money gained by this album to various charities i wouldn't have that much of a problem.

i guess it would all depend on the type of christmas songs they cover, too. if they're going to sit there and play silent night, o holy night, little drummer boy, jingle bells.... fuck that. but i wouldn't mind hearing their take on run run rudolph, little saint nick, fairytale of ny (duet with cat powers), happy xmas (war is over)... you know, the songs that aren't traditional but still just as great. i still wouldn't like the idea, but i'd probably buy it lol

I think you are half correct in saying its for singers to grab a quick buck and its straight cheese some times. But on the flip side, there is demand out there for contemporary Christmas music, whether it comes from Josh Groban, Justin Bieber, or She & Him. Although I know that many Jammers here expressed discontent with the idea, I think that there would be enough people who would really dig an Eddie Vedder Christmas album, and I doubt he or PJ would lose any fans over it. And like I've said before, I wouldn't mind a December tour in support of the album. :)

Just a reminder of the potential:

I totally agree. I was listening to Josh Groban's Ave Maria, and thought about how good Eddie could sing it.

I got such a good laugh when I actually previewed a few songs online. Then the laughter stopped and became concern for him and his mental health.

    Maybe Next Year.....
  • THAT is officially jumping the shark.

They've already recorded 5 Christmas songs(one a Jingle Bells instrumental). Obviously, all are not classic Christmas songs, but there are still 5.
