You can't be serious that "people don't like boom in the band; get over it". I personally love the addition of boom's keyboard and feel it adds a whole new dimension to the bands sound. Also, I know quite a few other Pearl Jam fans that feel the same way. I respect your personal opinion, but don't generalize by saying that "people don't like boom in the band", because every time the crowd screams his name after Crazy Mary it becomes quite clear that it's simply not true.

lol i knew i should have worded it differently. when i said "people" i didn't mean every pearl jam fan, i was just making a broad statement that certain people aren't a fan of him. yes, i know plenty of fans who enjoy his addition, but there are others who don't. i do believe that fans like me are the minority when it comes to our opinions on boom, but i blame that on the lemming-esque mentality of hardcore pearl jam fans : ) jk.. not really, but i am.

Well, I just happen to like that lil' guy. And that goes for Boom and the smilie alike. 8-)

Fair enough if not everyone likes what Boom brings to the band, everyone's entitled to their opinion and all. I'm not a fan of his addition to every song, but in general I quite like Boom. If nothing else, he seems like a cool guy! Also, it's pretty obvious the guys in Pearl Jam like Boom and want him around, so what are ya gonna do?

Not to mention how disrespectful booing is, everyone probably thinks you're saying "Boom" anyway. ;)

  • I think Boom is a necessity. Take the song In Hiding, now I'm not to sure if Boom had joined the band at that point yet, but the Piano in that song gives me frickin chills (in a good way) If he wasn't there to play it live, there would be something missing. Another song, Love Boat Captain, the organ is also an integral part of that song and can't be taken over by some other instrument.

There are many more examples of this. the songs they have written since Yield have called for keys. They in no way over use him, I think they may even boarder line under use him.

    Just My $0.02

P.S. The scene in Imagine In Cornice where boom plays the church organ is fucking beautiful. The emotion of the end of his face when he finishes playing is beautiful. How can you not like him after that?
  • Yip, check out Dublin, Ireland, The Point, Aug 23, 2006 boot.

Eddie thinks the crowd are booing the band during the first encore break and thinks there is a major issue until he has it explained to him.

Was a funny moment, but wouldn't have been quite so funny if they had decided to walk off instead of playing the rest of the show.

I thought Ed was "in on it". But it was five years ago and I haven't listened to the boot in a while so maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

that's where i'll never see eye to eye with other fans. boom is far from a necessity to me. in hiding was written/recorded around 1997 and boom joined pearl jam in 2002-ish. his instrument is absolutely unnecessary on that song, or on any other song recorded before he joined pearl jam. i'm not a big fan of his hockey arena sounding organ, but he's part of the band and i'll deal with that. what i can't stand is when he plays during songs that have absolutely no use for an organ.. even flow? in hiding? i used to love crazy mary, but ever since the 2003 tour i can't stand listening to it. boom's and mike's "dual" (i guess you'd call it that.. not sure of another word) is slightly annoying and far too long.
i'm not bashing boom as a person; he's probably a great guy... there's a reason why eddie wanted him in the band. i'll just never see a point adding to something that was already perfect. let me ask the people who actually read my post a question: if boom never joined the band, would pearl jam be in worse shape than the are now? to me, they'd be in the exact same spot. so the way i look at it is that boom adds something to the band that doesn't need to be there.
    my rants over lol

I was at that show too, and have listened to the boot many times, and I'm pretty sure Ed was joking around

i yell boo. always have, always will.
I think Boom's organ does not mesh with the band. I can not stand the end of Alive when you can hear Boom's keyboards louder than Mike. UGH! Alive is noted for a great guitar solo, not an organ solo. I also prefer Crazy Mary pre-Boom.
  • i yell weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddd..
    Boom knows why..
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."

  • The newspaper in Philadelphia reported that the fans were booing the New slower songs when Wasted Reprise was played in 2006.
