I never held you in real life- I got Id
wow, coming to the realization of this recently made me feel like less than zero...super angry at first, then felt like a complete fool, loser, so much disbelieve...so much pain...then numbness. im getting better each day, but after almost 4 years, it's not fucken easy to feel like it was a complete illusion.
i never held you in real life...
what your saddest pearl jam line?

"It's nothing as it seems,.. the little that you see,.. it's home..."
"It don't seem fair...you seemed to like it here..."
"Mondays were made to fall,... lost on a road he knew by heart"
"The end, comes near, I'm here but not much longer."
These are the ones that hit me the most.

All or none is a close second
This stuck with me for a long time.

And I'm the night, as I'm waiting on
The real possibility I may meet you in my dream

You're right. You are a monster! You are sick! Get help!
At least, I am not a fuck-up! A lying fuck-up!
"All the rusted signs we ignore throughout our lives, choosing the shiny ones instead "
it's sad"
That one always gets me right there, particularly the way Ed delivers the vocal.

I heard the song first around a month after he died. Hit me like a goods train!

And you're talking back to me
Come the morning I could swear you're next to me
Lost my Dad to cancer almost 4 years ago. I cry every time I hear this song.
And four years ago me and the brothers and sisters were discussing palliative care for our Mam. Captain C is such a leveller. It discriminates for no one! Hope you have made friends with the sad thoughts. If you can do that, you can bear it, just about.

This
This line gets to me every time I hear it. One of my favorite PJ songs though.
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room
How much difference
How much difference
How much difference does it make
How much difference does it make..."
I make no difference ... is just how I felt ... absolute defeat
I was wrong... we all make a difference
Me too, I actually find that line sung on Riot Act, and the following line the one of the saddest points in Pearl Jam's music
Send my credentials to the house of detention
^^ This.
There are tons in this category for me. Here are the stand outs on my list:
Given to Fly
The Fixer gets me in a place hidden inside, just the idea in general
Black with "we belong together" tag
Daughter w/ “It’s ok”
Light Years -especially with the pink pop 00 ending
Inside Job
Footsteps:
"I've got scratches all over my arms,
one for each day since I fell apart"
I Got Id:
"if just once,I could feel loved-
oh stare back at me...."
Sad:
The whole damn song, but especially:
"He stayed in his room with memories for days,
He faced- an undertow of futures laid to waste...
Embraced; by the loss of what he could not replace"
and:
"If just one wish could bring her back
It's sad... and his lonliness is proof
It's sad... he will always love you"
The End:
“Slide on next to me; I'M JUST A HUMAN BEING-
I will take the blame
But just the same,
THIS IS NOT ME,
You see, believe, I'M BETTER THAN THIS
Don't leave me so cold
Or buried beneath the stones
I just want to hold on
and know I'm worth your love
Enough-I don't think
There's such a thing.."

But what they want her to be is weak
She could just pretend
She could join the game
and..
I will light the match this morning
so I won't be alone

Those lines still give me the chills. I had a real crushing breakup when I was in my early 20's and I would listen to that over and over, which was really just punishing myself. Every time I hear it it brings me back to that time, so crazy!
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world
We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road, straight ahead
A car was stalled, the engine was dead
I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right
I'll never forget the sound that night
The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass
The painful scream that I heard last
Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world
When I woke up the rain was pourin' down
There were people standing all around
Something warm goin' through my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said
"Hold me darling, just a little while"
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew I had missed
Well now she's gone
Even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life, that night
Oh where, oh where, can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world
