Mac question

You know how you're always having to install updates with PCs? Is it true that you don't have to do that with Macs? Because if I have trouble with one more update I'm going to throw my PC across the room and I'll need to decide what kind of computer to replace it with.

    At least I'm not the only one! :) I just really hate all these updates, especially because they never update correctly. All I really want to do is update my iPad to iOS 5, but I keep getting an error message. When I investigate the error, it says I need to make sure all my computer updates have been installed. When I investigate and see that I have updates to install, I try to install them but they won't download. (About this point is when I remember that this has happened before and I was never able to resolve it, which is why I just gave up and haven't updated my iPad operating system in awhile.) When I try to resolve it again, it tells me to install something else. When I try to install that, it won't install. By this point I can't even keep track of what I was trying to install in the first place! Argh! :( :?

    You sound like me about a month ago trying to update my IPhone. :lol: I eventually just caved and went to the Apple store and had them do it. :lol:

    updating on a mac is easy as downloading an mp3

    no hassle at all.

    Is it kind of like updating the iPhone/iPad apps? THAT'S easy! Are there service packs and security patches and all that nonsense? Just wondering.

    no service packs
    there are operating system (OS) updates
    general bug fix updates
    application updates

    nothing too major

    You will still need to update a mac, but it is very easy :) .

    All you have to do is:

    1. Go to System Preferences (if you look at the application icons down at the bottom of the screen on the dock, you should see an icon like this:

    2. Click on "software update", then click "check now". If updates are needed they will be listed, then you just need to confirm that it is ok to update.

    you still have to do updates with macs ... not quite sure how it is in windows but eventually, the updates will make certain versions of your software obsolete ... especially if you have it all interconnected ... ie. iphone - itunes - mac ...

    all in all tho - i've had my macbook pro laptop for about 5 years now and the only thing that is really different is the battery ... i upgraded OS and software once ... outside the batter, still pretty much works the same ...

    have you looked into the possibility that it could be operator error? :P

    also, it seems most computer issues come from porn serches...have you been looking at goat pictures again?

    Macs do require OS updates, but the advantage is in the overall philosophy of Apple's software/hardware integration. Because Macs are built by the same company that creates their OS, things tend to integrate better. Compared that to the complexity of Windows, which has to take into account all of the different PC hardware manufacturers that run it - updates are larger, take longer, have an increased chance of compatibility issues, etc etc.

    If you want simple, get a Mac. You'll pay a little more up front but from my experience will have a machine that is easy to maintain and is reliable. And really when you compare specs-to-specs Macs aren't THAT much more expensive. It's just that there are so many cheap PCs out there that Apple doesn't have a 'bargain basement' product to compare to. I've owned both and I can honestly say that most of Apple products are worthy of the hype (the MacBook Air is the exception), and I don't consider myself an Apple fan boy in any way. Last year my wife bought a Sony Vaio and it's already running slowly with all of the crap that Windows accumulates. I have a 4 year old Macbook Pro that runs like a champ and probably will for a very long time...

    even easier. Just click the apple logo on the top left of the screen and then click software update. OP doesn't actually have a Mac though

    It's basically the same on either one. Linux is the same as well.

    I've logged significant time with all 3 platforms as my primary OS and the people who tell you it's different/better on a MAC are fanboys.
    The only people we should try to get even with...

    Yup, some updates, but very painless and super quick compared to Windows. Went Mac 3 years ago, haven't looked back.

    Do it!! You'll love it.

    I am in the market for a new computer, I'm not tech savy in any way and like the other apple products I've used. Where would I be able to compare a Mac book pro with any combareble windows based laptop. I would like to compare apples to apples.
