Breath - Seattle, 91
Remember when you could jump in to the crowd, surf, and then get gently pushed back to the stage, without getting torn to pieces? Remember when your hair was LONG and you could whip it back and forth with out getting a headache? Remember when you played LOOOOOOOOUDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!
GAWWDDDDDDDDDD.
Remember when there was ENERGY in music? When it was fresh, and when it RAWKD?
Where is the Misty Mountain Hop? Where is the Iron Man of today ???
I keep a playlist on YouTube which includes my current favorite version of each song in the catalog (or most songs, anyway)...and I keep a second playlist of other good versions of the songs. I take into consideration such attributes as how well the band played the song that night, sound quality of the recording, picture quality of the recording, etc. I'm relatively picky, actually.
I'll have to go through the suggestions above and see if any of them are better than my current favorites.
Some of my all-time favorite songs though (for example, Black, Even Flow, Rearview Mirror, Porch, Deep, State of Love & Trust, Given To Fly, I Am Mine, Thumbing My Way, Elderly Woman, Do the Evolution, Crazy Mary, Undone, Force of Nature...a few others)....I think I've watched every version of those songs that are out there.
And yes...I spend a lot of time on YouTube. Much more time than I spend here, for instance. Much more.
I think my playlist is public...but if it's not, anyone here is welcome to send me an invite indicating you are from here and I'll accept.
Not sure if this up here anywhere but for me this is the single most important video pj has. To me at least it signifies a turning point for the band and possibly the reason they are still around today... I could be over thinking it tho

Can you explain the importance of the video to a newie? Please
what I think he is saying is that No Code seperated the casual fans from the Faithfull. A lot of casual fans thought No Code was awful. I remember hearing the 1st single from it which was Who you are and loving it when there was a lot of people who hated it. No Code is #2 for me behind Yield. It was different from the the 1st three albums and I think this album is what weeded out the fanbase.
Side note I remember asking my dad to tape this (VHs) on David Letterman because I had to work. He did and I will always remember seeing the volume on the screen getting moved up the last 1:30 of the song and I asked my dad why he was turning it up? He said that when you listen to music you got to listen to it loud. Thanks pops!!!

Well 95' and 96' these were trying times for PJ fans... I remember before hearing that they were working on no code there were a lot of rumors that the band was breaking up. After soldier field they just sort of vanished...
I remember having no idea what the future held for pj that summer before no code came out.
And then scattered details of this new album stared to pop up, but at the time all the critics were ripping it apart. Everyone was saying that pj had lost it. Hearing no code was confirmation that the band had definitely changed... not in a bad way to me, but an obvious changed had happened.
I remember being almost nervous to see them on letterman. It felt like a make or break performance. Like are these guys nuts? Have they lost their minds? Is this performance going to suck?
And then... boom. Hail Hail. And they simply nail it. Jack sounds great (a lot of peoples first time seeing jack with the band was this show) Eddie was wearing a jacket and sounded the best he ever had, stone all orange, mccready blonde hair... everything about this said- We are here, we never left, we are the greatest band in the world and if you can figure out no code, you'll appreciate us even more.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
One of their best BSB appearances, imho.
No Code era shit, bizzam! Off he Goes Sometimes
Around the Bend (no video, so sad)
also, Footsteps, YellowLed and a few other gems (weird Porch version), including that slowed down Corduroy which still manages to rock.
My only complaint is that the bootleg I paid $50 for back in the day was mislabeled, had some songs on there twice, some not at all, and generally just pissed me off. But the purple jar-of-jam art was pretty cool.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
 I kinda knew you were going to post this here...

hail hail on letterman! so awesome.
i well remember the night it was sposed to play on tv here in nz and for some reason it didn't get shown. i think i went a little crazy! being back before youtube, i ended up getting a vhs copy sent to me from an australian fan. the classic thing is that when she recorded it, she just wanted to watch it over and over, so she recorded it over and over for me - so, somewhere i have a vhs with hail hail repeated 20 times. which was, of course, perfectly reasonable - and watchable!
