oh god, no! 'Christmas album' makes me think of the likes of Josh Groban, Cliff Richard, Barbara Streisand, et al...crooners, with nothing else left to pull out of the box. And a PJ Gospel Album?? I dunno whether to laugh or cry or hit someone.

How abt we stick to our day-jobs and let Eddie &/the band make the music eh? They've done pretty well so far without resorting to such 'novelties', wouldn't you say?

Personally if ever there was to be an Ed Ved Chrissie album and I was high enough to buy it and put the needle on the record, it would be the end of it all...I can picture myself looking at the album cover and asking why I ever thought so highly of him.
if I keep holding out,.... will the light shine through?

So Pearl Jam oe Eddie decided to do a Gospel Album, or a Christmas Album

because it goes against some of your belief systems its a horrible Idea? Good GOD I hope they never do another
50's cover like last kiss we may lose half of 10c if they do that...right???

They are a band people and they may have ideas of songs or albums that you may not agree with (ie: Ole` )

doesn't mean they're jumping the shark, doesn't mean they are running out of material, maybe they just want to do something out of the ordinary just to keep you guessing.....

Ya think? Lighten' up 10c'rs its just a freaking question

a christmas album is far from "out of the ordinary". christmas albums should be reserved for flavour of the month pop stars. you know, the ones who don't have the capability of writing their own music? it's pure cheese at it's finest and nothing but a gimmick. i love christmas music because christmas is my favourite time of the year (next to halloween), but i'll be damned if my favourite band does something as tacky as a christmas album lol
about the whole religious thing... if i want to listen to a song about god, i'll either a.) go to church, or b.) buy a gospel album. i never want to associate pearl jam with religion. they're not that type of band and i'd like to keep it that way.
  • You'd like to keep it that way...YOU...Like you have a say on what music the band decides to record. C'mon now , what if Ed doesn't or Mike doesn't? What if Olivia comes to her Dad and says "Daddy I want you to make a Christmas record" You gonna fault him for doing something against YOUR norm? beause you think its cheesy or tacky?

yes I'D like to keep it that way. meaning that I want to because it's MY opinion. I never once said that I have creative control over pearl jams music. and yes, I would fault them for doing something out of their norm. do ME a favour and find ME a lyric of pearl jams that references a belief in god. metaphors and story telling doesn't count. I want a first person lyric. i'll wait.

    credibility????
if pj released a Christmas/gospel album....they would lose all crediblity? one album would cancel all their previous work?

    you have lost your mind.

their credibility from their previous work would still be there, but anything after would be questionable. look at what happened to weezer after "make believe".

excellent point... let the guys do their thing

people change through life, experiences and love change them,
if someone found out their core beliefs had changed would they really abandon them

    that's crazy talk

it is not our call what they do

above all else one does not have to agree with someone,
to love them, to be kind to them or respect their beliefs.

Honor Pearl Jam for who they are ... they have proven worthy... don't we all feel that.
If they change in the years to come embrace the changes, it's all good.

I hope Pearl Jam makes a Christmas gospel album and then has a limited run of five hundred copies on candy cane scented red and white swirled vinyl with a Klausen designed Advent Calendar thrown in for good measure. Then all of the sudden everyone who says they'd stop following the band if they ever did these things will instead start bitching about how not enough copies were made and they didn't get one and now they have to trade five bottles of beer and one of those Verizon Wireless goodie bags from the 2008 tour just to get one...

For the record, and this might sound funny, but i work at music production company owned by a gospel legend and I think an Eddie gospel album would be awesome and im not joking. Im not talking churchy, religious lyrics, im talking about eddie with an acoustic and a choir backing him up...
    ie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvMFdAtsRTg

come on, this would be cool people.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

I posted that over on the gospel thread and pointed out that people would go apeshit if they did something like that on record, but no one bothers to look at actual evidence that something could work. It's more important to complain.

Advent Calender with No Code-esque polaroids representing each day's chocolate, but instead be Christmas pictures. And an ultra rare limited edition Dogfish Head Egg Nog with that :D

I initially was against the gospel album thing, but then rewatching the video of Eddie performing My City of Ruins reminded me how much I liked his version of the song. But I didn't mean to marry the two ideas in this thread. I was just referencing the other thread.

For all the criticism there was over the Christmas album idea, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that its a good idea. Eddie just made an album full of Ukelele songs, and instead of losing his fanbase, he probably grew his fanbase by attracting coffee shop hipsters and easy listening music fans. I think that he could easily pull off a fantastic Christmas album and keep his credibility intact. The guy is a musical genius.

And maybe I wouldn't complain if there was a Christmas tour to go with the album. :)

Wow, so you're painting all PJ fans with the same brush? Not everyone on this board lives and dies for merchandise alone, or is a fan of the band for reason alone. I know I speak for many who don't really care for every single scrap of merchandise that is/has been for sale in the goods section. It's just stuff.

Those of us who only ever buy meaningful merch (i.e. posters of shows we've personally attended, an EV Zippo cuz there's no other way to light up ;) or the faulty Alpine Valley hoodie cuz of that "it's OK to fuck up" PJ-philosophy...etc), wouldn't even spit on that 'oh-so-special' gospel Christmas album you described. What's the big deal with coloured vinyl anyway? And the only other thing I need from Klausen now is his signature on my PJ20 shoes  certainly not an advent calendar!

And speaking for myself, I'm not against the gospel or christmas album ideas for reasons of religious beliefs, just don't like cheesy, tacky moves by otherwise great bands

    Yay!! Better seats for me!!

They have already done like 3 christmas songs.. and as far as a band onits last legs... I remember seeing Bad Religion in 93 and they played a whole set of Christmas songs for the q101 twisted Christmas. One was called Leon.

Stop taking life so seriously, some of the best music out there makes me laugh.

Besides, you know alot of people would buy a cd that had 2 songs and 50 minutes of studio banter and noodling.

Dylan, Cash, Elvis have all done both Christmas and Gospel. So....

THAT is officially jumping the shark.

I hear Scott Weiland is putting a Christmas album out.

And yeah, it's more than jumping the shark, it's desperation.

His voice... crooning ... goes so well at holiday time :D
  • The local soft favorites station here just started playing Christmas music. How much better would it be with Eddie singing some Christmas classics? Maybe even a duet with Josh Groban?

I'm not so keen on xmas, I don't like Let me sleep that much, definetly I don't like Someday at Christmas and the 2007 xmas single... I like She & him, the band, I bought their xmas album but I didn't enjoyed it much, I like the band, I like how she sings, her voice, but I didn't like the songs much, buying that album may be considered a #FAIL... I'm certain that the outcome of a PJ or an EV xmas album will be at least okay because they are very talented and gifted, however, I'd rather they didn't release that... xmas songs are so... argh... is there a word for that?
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

  • Another thing to add...if Bruce Springsteen can pull it off, I think Eddie/PJ could pull it off. I know not everyone likes Bruce here, but nobody is knocking on his credibility.

I know many don't like Christmas tunes. I'm not one of them,
I'll be getting my basket of cd's out today to enjoy for the first time this season.

The music marks the start of the holidays and hearing Dino, Bing, Louie and Elvis ...
my Motown Christmas too, brings back memories of my parents and sister who have
    left this world.

Music another way to keep close.

When I am gone it would be nice to have an Eddie or PJ Christmas album for my kids
to listen too ... my spirit would be close.
