i have recently come together with a fender blues deluxe reissue amp and it is amazing. my only problem is the overdrive isnt enough for some of the punk stuff i play. for straight ahead country, blues, whatever, its fucking awesome. i just cant get the palm mute crunch attacks of a operation ivy, us bombs or social distortion sound. now, this is my first real amp, ive always had a little fender bullet amp abd believe it or not, it had a great broken punk sound. ive never had a distortion or overdrive pedal so i figured im asking at the right place. ive been looking on the board and was thing the boss od-3 or overdrive/distortion pedal, boss blues driver, i dunno im in need of some sound advive. pun intended.

My standard fall back is the Big Muff Pi. Nothing fancy or particularly versatile, but it's mean as hell and sounds like a monster. I use it for everything, fuzz, distortion, crunch, overdrive it will do it all. Lots of gain and pretty darn good tone to boot!

Do you want to boost the amps Overdrive or use a Distortion pedal as a separate 'channel'?
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

The way I remember, Op Ivy doesn't really use a lot of overdrive/distortion in their stuff, just a little edge on a clean tone. Social D, on the other hand, uses a pretty straight-forward distortion, like a ProCo Rat or Boss DS-1 type of tone. The Blues Driver is probably versatile enough to cover both of those bases, or you could look at something like the Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde, which is an overdrive and distortion (2 channels) in one pedal. That would definitely give you that range that you're wanting without needing to bend over and change settings between songs. Otherwise, you could look at getting 2 separate pedals, an overdrive and a distortion. For straight-up distortion, I generally prefer the Rat; for overdrive, I'm more of a Tubescreamer fan. For punk especially, I prefer a good, strong midrange tone that both the Rat and TS provide; that way you aren't fighting with the bass player for tone and clarity.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

I believe Mike Ness uses an SD-1 into modified bassman amps. So in front of a blues deluxe it should be reminiscent anyway.

Correct on the SD-1. I don't know if Boss has changed that circuit over the years (probably have). But he rarely uses it. Its usually his boost on the solos though. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go look at 4x10 cabinets again, thanks a lot....

Could always consider a Fulltone OCD. you could get a used one or a scratch and dent from Fulltone's website to save a few bucks.

I've got a blues deluxe as well and use a Fulltone Fulldrive. Absolutely love it.

It's worth mentioning that the Fender Blues and Hot Rod amps are pretty well-known for taking pedals extremely well, so it's hard to imagine you could get a pedal that won't work well with the amp.

Too bad they are also well-known for having really terrible overdrive channels...

Also, im looking gor a Shecter PT Goldtop Telecaster. If anyone knows anything hit me up on here or dogfootblues@gmail.com

I would say either a modded SD-1 or an OCD. Both will do the job, and just roll back on the volume for cleaner parts

My new Blues Deluxe reissue will be on my porch tomorrow!!! Anyone have ideas on tubes I should look into to replace the stock ones. I'm not doing it right away but would like to hear any opinions. I didn't think starting a new thread would be necessary since this one is up.
