Significance of Jerome Turner and the # 23?

I'm wondering why Ed would still use this alias, especially when most of us know it's him. And any idea what, if any, the name signifies, or where it came from? And what's up with the #23 on the back of the uke songbook?

I think 23 is a MJ tribute and Jerome Turner tends to be the alias of choice when it comes to art credits on albums...at least that's what I get out of it 8-)

Think I heard somewhere 23 is Ed's lucky/favorite number. Think it's his birhday too, no? 12/23?

For Chicago sports fans growing up in the 80s and 90s, 23 was a pretty significant number - both Jordan and Sandberg wore it.

Not sure about Turner but I am pretty sure Jerome was his middle name once he was adopted by Mueller.

I've seen things that say his name was Edward Jerome Mueller.

honestly, I thought the Michael Jordan thing was too obvious to be it. But I guess it is.

I think the Jordan thing is more of a happy coincidence. Ed was in his twenties by the time Jordan was on the Bulls. I always thought the 23 thing was an obvious extension of it being his birth date. Does anyone not feel some kind of affinity with the number in their birth date?

23 was on a lot of his solo tour merch in '09... it was drawn such that if you flipped it over, it looked like EV. That is my contribution.

yes, JT is Ed's alias, I guess I didn't word my question properly. I was more wondering how he came up with the name, if the name itself holds any significance. Someone said Jerome is his birth middle name or something, so that's something. But Turner? Or was it just a random name he came up with? And why even use an alias for the layout of a cd? I could see maybe if it was someone else's cd, but Jeff doesn't give an alias for all the pictures he contributes. It's just especially odd that it's on his solo record, "all songs by Ed Vedder, layout concept by Jerome Turner".

Kinda sounds like he has a split personality.

    fixed it for you.

chicago also has a few other signifigant #23's.... current sox manager robin ventura and the 2005 WORLD SERIES MVP Jermaine Dye.

trick question...who was the last cubs world series mvp?

Too lazy to search ... does Jerome tie-in with the "J" on the ukelele? Doesn't a shirt/artwork show the back of a uke with a big captial J on it?

In fact, just found a photo, yeah -- one of his ukes has the "J" on the back -- the other MIB or MB or MR in the superman logo shield ? Sidetrack, what's that about?
