Hopefully they do side shows, i refuse to go to that shithouse festival

It is fulse. Unless they are not headlining, but the official BDO Facebook page has stated no headliner starts with P.

What's the deal with this festival that so many people don't like it? I see the line-up each year and it seems to always attract big names. Is it just a shit venue or is it organised badly? :?
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12
  • It's the people at the festival. It's full of drunk/drugged up 15 year olds. It isn't about the music as much as it used to be

And drunk bogans, and drunk idiots in their 30s-40s who still think they are 16 being dickheads. The festival regularly sells out, and I'm sure it would sell out even before a single band was announced. It would seem most just go to get shit faced and be dickheads.

Shame.... I think festivals are an excellent day out if you get the right balance but yeah, it's generally drunkeness that ruins things.

Festivals are excellent, especially if the headliner is allowed to play what would be a full set! :D

I don't think the festivals you guys get in the UK or Europe are really comparable to the shitstorm that is a Big Day Out.

Nobody knows which bands are playing, the shows sell out immediately purely because nobody gives a toss about which bands are playing - it's just an excuse for a bunch of bogans to get shitfaced (with some music playing in the background).

I went to Soundwave this year for Iron Maiden/Queens/Melvins and it was like night and day - I know Soundwave has a reputation as being poorly organised but it was so much better than ANY BDO I've been to. It's the crowd that made all the difference - guys who are into metal are generally at least passionate about the music they're going to see, they're not there just to celebrate being a gigantic tool.

BDO in the 90s early 00s were great punters going to hear/see bands that they were in to, now it is just drunken yobs Soundwave is now the BDO of the 90s 2 years ago Janes Addition played only songs off the first 3 albums and the punters dug it do that at the BDO these days no chance

Oh, for sure - I'm definitely referring to what the BDO has (d)evolved into over the last decade or so.

100% right. Im an Irishman who now lives in NZ.
European festivals are amazing. BDO is a big heap of shit. Ive had free tickets 2 years in a row and refuse to go back. Its horrible. No 'music' atmosphere. Its basically sell as many tickets to kids as they can. Horrible.

Pearl Jam would be the only band I would ever go back to see here but most certainly wouldnt travel to all the BDO's to see PJ like I would if PJ did their own multi city tour of Aus and NZ.

Please dont let it be true.

I never thought I'd be happy to hear that PJ are NOT coming here. I sooooo didn't want to go to BDO but would just have to if PJ were involved in any way. Phew!! Fingers crossed for a PJ tour around this time next year though - they're about due again by then. That way I can enjoy it with all the true fans and not the BDO morons.

Problem with Hyde Park was that it was the only stage for major acts and it was more like normal show with just 2-3 more opening bands

I had an amazing gig in Hyde Park last year, the description above certainly wasn't my experience, we had a blast, a huge group of PJ fans, other people around us bemused but who got into it and joined in with the dancing, singing etc...
I didn't see any very drunk and aggressive people, the prices were too expensive! :D:lol:

I hope Oz does get some shows, maybe that will increase the chance of a visit to Europe! :D
