Stone on Binaural

wow... the book is so cool.
only read about No Code and Binaural so far and it's all so interesting. Stone doesn't seem to have much love for Binaural it seems. And while I do love this album, I always felt it could've been so much better if they had just thought about the tracklisting a little better and the guys seem to think the same from the comments in the book. Shame really, could've been a real wow album. Tchad Blake was so so so right, it's unbelievable that Fatal didn't make the cut - this song is soooo Pearl Jam.
Been thinking about this for years so here is what maybe would've been better:
Breakerfall
Sad
Fatal
Light Years
Nothing As It Seems
In The Moonlight
Thin Air
Insignificance
Education
Of The Girl
Sleight Of Hand
Soon Forget
Evacuation has no place on anything apart from lost dogs. And although I like Grievance and Rival and parting ways, they don't seem as strong to me personally, maybe in the same category as In The Moonlight, but I think perhaps that has more substance to it. dunno. just thinking out loud.

It will be interesting to see how they treat Binaural when it's re-released. Will it get the "Ten treatment"?Member 164xxx

I think Sad and Fatal are amazing, but Grievance , Rival and Parting ways have their place on that album for sure. I like evacuation, but I agree, and kinda surprised it got picked over Sad and Fatal. But I also love the factt hat some great songs like Sad are possibly left out there on purpose for us diehards to discover on our own.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -
No way you leave off any of those songs.. Especially God's Dice!!! if anything, leave off Of The Girl and Soon forget.. kind of fluff tracks IMO.. but, no God's Dice is a definate NO NO!!None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

hehe, it's interesting to hear other people's opinions on the tracklisting.
Yeah soon forget is'nt amazing and is a filler song I guess but it kinda has merit and I'd sit it at the end as a bonus, maybe even a hidden track.
I like all the songs off Binaural except for Evacuation which really spoils it for me, but some I would've swapped for others on Lost Dogs.

Evacuation is a cool song...especially listening to it on headphones and the way the evacuations overlap in the song. i think it is highly underrated. the only songs, to me...if any...that should've been left off on Binaural are God's Dice and Soon Forget. eddie should've kept Soon Forget for his ukelele album. it's all personal taste though and the album released as is and it's still awesome.I died. Parting Ways is a great way to close out the album - it's got that slow, wave-like "Long Road" kind of feel. It works well lyrically too. I think the downfall of the album was Breakherfall. It's an Ok song, but it's an awful way to open an album. Up till then they had Once, Go, Last Exit/STBC, Sometimes into Hail Hail and BOJ. Compared to that lineup Breakerfall is just weak. They should have had something much harder like Insiginficance or possibly a soft/hard combination ("that's what she said") like Of the Girl into Insignificance.9/28/96, 8/28/98, 8/29/98, 8/18/00, 10/8/00, 10/9/00, 4/28/03, 6/22/03, 7/8/03, 7/9/03, 10/2/04, 10/5/04, 10/1/05, 10/3/05, 5/28/06, 6/20/08, 6/25/08, 10/27/09, 10/30/09, 10/31/09, 5/18/10, 5/20/10, 5/21/10, 10/21/13, 10/22/13, 4/28/16, 4/29/16, 8/22/16, 9/26/21, 10/1/21, 10/2/21, 5/3/22, 5/6/220

i LOOOOVE Breakerfall. hahahaha, as you can see it doesn't matter what they would've done with the tracklisting because we all have different tastes. :thumbup:I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.0 -
It doesn't surprise me at all...Stone is not very political it seems..Binaural is more of an Ed album IMO.
And that's why Ed is the man and Stone writes songs like Your Flames.

Of the Girl is genius, an amazing opener to a show and a gem on the album.
Pull: Evacuation and Soon Forget
Add: In the Moonlight and Sad33...0 -
yeah, see, would've been better. except no evacuation lol.
I also think of the girl is fantastic - pure brilliance and one of songs that makes binaural special.
Interesting... I don't see Binaural as a Vedder album at all, I see it as a mass contribution from everyone, with even the other guys writing lyrics for lots of the songs, seems like solo efforts from all combined together.
I see No code as a very Eddie Influenced album and have always thought it wasn't far from being an Ed solo record lol.London 29-10-96, London 29/30-5-00, London 20-4-06, Reading 27-8-06, London 18-6-07, London 11-8-09, London 18-8-09, London 25-6-10, Berlin 30-6-10 / PJ20 3/4-9-11, Manchester 20-6-12, Amsterdam 26/27-6-12, EV-London 30/31-7-12, EV-Orlando 27-11-120 -
oooooh, Actually it would be nice to hear the original Tchad Blake mixes on the re-release, I think the best stuff on Binaural is the stuff that Tchad did.London 29-10-96, London 29/30-5-00, London 20-4-06, Reading 27-8-06, London 18-6-07, London 11-8-09, London 18-8-09, London 25-6-10, Berlin 30-6-10 / PJ20 3/4-9-11, Manchester 20-6-12, Amsterdam 26/27-6-12, EV-London 30/31-7-12, EV-Orlando 27-11-120

Ed had this to say about the making of Binaural....
"We'd rather challenge our fans and make them listen to our songs than give them something that's easy to digest. There is a lot of music out there that is very easy to digest but we never wanted to be part of it."
guess he forgot about all that when they made Backspacer.
