  • What someone drinks and their choice to smoke or not is just that their choice.
As fans we have no right to discuss personal issues.

If something other than wine may be in those bottles perhaps this is done for a reason.
Not drinking is not lame to anyone who chooses not to especially fathers who dont drink.

But as always just my opinion ;)

I know it's not 1993 anymore, but I was just watching this vid earlier and thinking about how good it sounded. When it comes down to it, the differences are huge, and being that this is before he started smoking I'm willing to bet it's more than just age.

How do we know when Ed started smoking?
But I will admit, Ole on fallon was not pretty. Good song, but man eddie...

He started right after Kurt died.

Is that really true though? As fans of the band, we spend a ton of money on tickets, merch, bootlegs, and studio recordings to hear them sound their best - with a singer that smokes, that is never going to happen. I think as paying customers we have every right to comment on something that directly affects the quality of product. It's not like we're commenting on off the wall personal choices. Ed's decision to smoke is certainly his own, but it's also our right as the consumer of said voice to discuss it, or for some of us, stop paying to hear it.

I'm one of "his" fans from way back, and I can't even begin to understand how it's tradition. He still passes wine to the crowd, the Gatorade is always kept in a separate bottle on stage. But, we can agree to disagree. Glad that it tickles your fancy :D

Yes and no...we can comment....we always have that choice but to try to argue about it doesn't change anything.

That's what it comes down to- we can scream about it all we want, but its not like he's going to read a board and be like 'man, i didnt realize i could sing better if i stopped.'

If they did... they would've played Dirty Frank at PJ20.:lol:

I hadn't smoked a cigarette for two months. Guess when I started again? At PJ20. Sigh.

Try again! It took me several tries to finally quit for good.

To comment on a sound of a song a like or a dislike is one thing but to comment on what the man is doing in his personal life is another. There are many things that could be contributing to is vocal range. When they started as a band his vocal range was still developing. A man isn't going to sound exactly the same 20 years later and thats ok because I think he still sounds great.

I still enjoy what I hear. I still enjoy the performances they give sadly what I don't enjoy is often the vibe from other "fans" who have an elitist attitude..... That affects the quality of the product for me more than anything.

    Again just my opinion :D

It would be great if everyone that smoked would quit for their personal health. I have a very close friend who after 25 years has quit. He's gone nearly 4 months without a cigarette. I'm very proud of him as it doesn't seem to be very easy. Thank goodness I never started.

It isn't very easy...I quit after 12 years...once I got through the first couple weeks it was smooth sailing...knowing how hard it is to quit is why I've never had a smoke since.

Just keep supporting him...support is important.

in regards with the wine vs gatorade bottles......

i have a boot from 2000 i think LA where he says he doesnt want the band to be a 3 hour advertisement for Dodge. Not saying that he has to go and put gatorade in a wine bottle, but maybe its along the same lines.

Funny..never heard of the gatorade in wine bottles. Always thought it was kind of strange that he was possibly passing alcohol to minors in the first few rows..
