Just leaving Toronto myself...we used Us money almost exclusively.

US money was accepted in Montreal at the venue and a surrounding restaurant.

if you do this you will get dinged to convert to foreign currency-between 1-3% per transaction. Depends on your bank. I'm going to get traveler's cheques for the smaller purchases.

I looked into converting money at my bank, and they don't do it...I have to order 'foreign currency' travelers cheques...

we converted ours at the front desk where we stayed in toronto. not sure if everywhere does that or not. you can change it at the border, too, though. at least between MI and canada...i guess i would assume all customs border locations would do that, idk?

my 300 american = 277-ish canadian. not sure if there was a fee of some sort in there or not...the boyfriend exchanged some and used the debit card for some, so idk yet how fees will work out for him on that. when i booked the room, it was a 3% charge.

today i get to go to my bank to trade what cash we had left over back. your money is so much prettier! ;)
