Camel Cigarettes at PJ20 -- Why??

I'm guessing this was something that Alpine Valley did and not a Pearl Jam move, but having Camel give out cigarettes at PJ20 was the only disappointing aspect of an incredible weekend. PJ20 overall was so much fun; incredible music, fantastic fans and all around just a perfect weekend. But the smell of cigarettes was unavoidable and constant.

Actually -- maybe someone can confirm before I lock this complaint in -- is that what they were doing in the Camel tent? giving out packs of cigarettes? or was it something else?

Assuming that is what they were doing --- why why why invite Camel to give out smokes to whomever wanted them???? I'm sure plenty of people brought their own cigs in and the Camel tent wasn't the pure culprit of the second-hand smoke, but it certainly didn't help. It reeked of cigarettes everywhere.

Knowing Pearl Jam stands on their own and doesn't need a tobacco sponsor, I'm assuming this was an AVMT move..

I've seen these booths at many venues, especially outdoor ones, so I would chalk it up to Alpine Valley.

I think it was there newish line of snuff or whatever (those little single serving pouches of dip).

...they could have thrown something else straight-and-stick-like into the crowds, but I have a feeling some would have objected.

Why wouldn't they be? Joe was sidestage all night Sunday.

I bet he took all the water pressure filling his humps, causing the orders of "wash your hands with the ice and soap.

I went to the Camel tent at a street fair here. They have you go in, ask you if you smoke or chew, and how often.

Then you fill out a form to consent being on their mailing list, and you buy a can of chew and a full pack of smokes for $2. You get 2 coupons, one to buy a can of chew for $1, and a coupon to buy a pack of smokes for $1.

Camel probably pays a lot of money to be there, and when Alpine can only get 2 shows for the summer, they prob couldn't say 'no'.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
