Well spoken, my friend. Sorry our paths didn't cross this weekend...I looked all over for you, only to meet a bunch of other cool people! Next time, Dimi!
  • Other than set length, what would've been a satisfactory set? You knew they wouldn't play for way more than 2 and a half hours, that the venue was old and that there would be a few guests. So why complain? I can hardly see how night 1 could have been any better setlist wise. If you complain on the energy level, than may be you're part of the reason why.

Cornell singing very close to 15% of the 61 songs is a little too much if you ask me. I think 2 per night would have been too many but would have been better.

Oh well. I would say 98% if not more of the board is still good people and the posters who type venomous things at times only do so because this is a nameless, faceless place and there's no accountablity. To the poster that called me a non fan for not appreciating night 1 the way he feels I should and I should have my membership revoked probably wouldn't say that face to face. I just have to believe that.

I knew we'd encounter some teaching moments (this was one of them), just didn't think having others' opinions thrust upon me was going to be so commonplace.

There is another thread on here about what people saw during the concert and it seems to me that there were lots of drunk people... What even concerns me more, is that this behaviour is seen as "normal" and "conventional" somehow during a rock concert. Maybe I am becoming a conservative (hope to God not), or maybe this is what parenthood does to you, but to me pissing on a seat, jumping over a fence or passing out is pretty stupid and uncool... There is nothing funny about that. And has nothing to do with music...

But hey. Who am I? Just a drop in a bucket...

I missed Dimitri last year in Berlin. Couldn't find him. And I was looking! And he was supposedly easy to catch ;)

This is the problem with anonimity on any forum. People seem to forget their scruplus. The upside of things is; that it also makes them easy to forget - no?

Think I agree with this,...two songs each night with Cornell would have been a treat,...that would add 5 more PJ songs. Wasn't there but I agree with this viewpoint (not a complaint of course).
  • In 2000, USA, the big rarity was Alive. Before 2000, there was a Breath campaign. They finally played it in Philly 2000. Wash in Pittsburgh 2000 sent a shockwave through this message pit. When Blood and Deep reappeared in 2003, it was like the end of the world. Holmdel, Corrin Tucker joins PJ for Hunger Strike. I actually dislike her singing but she really nailed it. People were extatic! The jubilation was deafening. When at the Santa Barbara Bowl, Oct, 2003, Temple of the Dog reunited, that was like the shot heard around the world. People were in disbelief. Cornell was horrible that night, for some reason, his voice was shot and he sounded like 60+ year old Mick Jagger. But still, people reveled in the great moment. At LA, Gibson Theatre a couple of years back, Cornell came and did Hunger Strike and his voice was in top shape. People went nutts.

Now look at the setlists for the 2 nights at PJ-20. Sure, not every rarity was covered. Led Zeppelin didn't reunite to play Fool in the Rain. The Who wasn't there. The Rolling Stones didn't show up. But I've got to say, it is amazing to see that list of songs, rare or otherwise, the significance of Mother Love Bone and Temple of the Dog in PJ's history being recognized, etc., other than personal favorites here and there, I really don't know what more anybody would want.

I didn't go because I'm in my late 40's, have a family and those priorities. But I sat there with my blackberry, there at heart, in amazement over the developing setlists.

What I'm wondering about is tattoos. I can't believe how many men and women have them nowadays. I don't understand it. Wait and see how those look when you're in your 60's, 70's and 80's. But what I'm getting at is whether the inks and dyes affect mental behavior? Maybe that has to do something about all the complaints about the sets. Otherwise, I can't pin it down to anything.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

I just dislike the sense of entitlement the complainers have. Like cornell hasnt done some of those songs for 20 years and if thats what pj wants WE should be fine w it! Its their art! Judging setlists and percentage of covers reminds me of american idol nonsense. And ed said they are the happiest theyve been and these "fans" still complain about what the band wants to play. Maybe these folks want the band to be as miserable as they are? Im sorry im complaing about complainers but it does affect me. I cant lie. Im so happy that im simply happy.
He was ok but wondering about wandering

    Awesome. :)

Here's the thing: There are people in this world who are just negative. They don't like the meal they just ate, the movie they just saw, the book they just read, the TV show they just watched, the vacation they just took, the football team they claim to love, the line at the post office, the price of gasoline, the hot weather, the cold weather, the rainy weather, the dry weather or really any thing in their lives.

Why should a Pearl Jam show be any different?

  • I'm not a fan of Cornell or Temple of the dog stuff because I can't stand his voice. The only waves it sent through me were shivers.

That being said, I am not complaining about him performing because I get it and get what it means to some fans. However there was no reason to have him perform 8 songs at this festival. That was at minimum 4 too many.

In my opinion it should have been Reach down one night and Hunger Strike the next. It would have been the better way to go.

Agreed. I enjoyed CC playing on Saturday night. I thought it was really cool to see some TOTD performed live. However, I also think it was kind of a buzz kill on Sunday night...especially when they played a couple of repeat songs. Maybe my hopes were just too high that someone else would be there (like Neil Young).
