Incorrect. People buy posters for friends all the time.

Then YOU don't need 2, you NEED 1 and your friend NEEDS 1.

If you're not at the show, you don't get one. Even though lots of these posters are beautiful and there are some that nearly all of us would want on our wall, these posters are designed to be souvenirs of the show. This was mentioned as the reason that you couldn't order them with your tickets.

...or increasing inventory to meet demand, which can be done simply by printing as many as they sell.

The limited quantity is the root of this issue. Remove that, and it makes it available to 100% of the people who want it, and it also removes the incentive for flippers to buy, as well is a convenience for those fans not wanting to tote a tube around. I don't see any negatives with selling all you can, printing all you can, then shipping.

Very true. I for one don't really care if my poster is worth $30 or $300 on the secondary market b/c I use these for framing and hanging in my house. Mass producing posters would really only hurt the flippers and those who like to say my poster is worth more than yours.
  • I loved how the 10 Club gives the hotel package people a 6 foot poster and tells them that for $60 you can have it shipped to your house since there is no way it's getting on a plane. Laughable.

  • having a limit has never worked and will never work unless they do what some venues do with beer sales. I can't remember where I think it's spac where they mark your bracelet and once you hit the limit you can't buy more. so have the merch ppl mark the back of your ticket and if you already bought 1 or 2 you are done.

    Exactly.

I don't see limiting to one per person solving this.

I do see increasing supply as solving this.

The band and artists are leaving lots of money on the table by not printing more posters.

How much does it cost to print a poster? $3? Maybe $5? But they sell at the show for $30 (or was it $35). That's a nice profit that can be made by selling more prints.

    Agreed.

Increasing supply by printing and shipping later has the following benefits:

    -More profit for the artist
    -More profit for the band
-No wasted inventory for unpopular posters
-Easier work for the tour merch person
-More convenience for the fans (unless they like carrying a tube during the show)
-100% of the people who want a poster can get a poster

I don't see significant benefits of limiting to one poster.

I sure did. Honestly there shouldn't be any reason that a 10 Club member that scores 10 Club seats should be shut out of a poster if they want one. Too sit here and say it's ok to let 3 guys get 150+ posters and then get in their car and leave is ridiculous.

To be completely clear on my stance, I would much rather this than the 1 poster limit I supported earlier. I would much rather have a flooded market where nobody considers limits necessary, but if there are limits I think even 2 is too much.

Fair enough vedhead. I can agree. But then enforcing it is a whole other thing.

I suppose they can keep it simple and put a black Sharpee X on people's hands. That's hard enough to get off completely.

I'm all for 1 per person. Two is acceptable, but I'd push for 1. We got one of the very last posters in the venue, or at least it was according to the merch people, and it really pissed me off that people before hand were purchasing like 8-10. Most likely to turn and make a profit.

Not disputing that at all.... I feel bad for you guys and hopefully in time you will get one from PJ20 at a reasonable price. Plus any 10Clubber stealing off another 10clubber is wack. I kinda think that goes against the whole idea of the club. just my 2cents.

Its just this one time I need two :)

The poster artist has no say in how many posters are printed for the show; it's the band and managements call.

The poster artists are contacted prior to a tour, asked to come up with a design for a city(ies), and are offered either of the following:

a.) a set fee for designing the poster

    or

b.) an X amount of artist prints (A/P) to sign and number and sell for any amount of money they choose at conventions, on their website, etc.

Most of these artists choose the latter. Brad Klausen, case and point, chose the latter as he was selling his artist proofs Sunday at his merch table in the expo center. His posters were numbered out of 215 (or somewhere around there) and he was selling them for $70.00 per.

So it is Pearl Jam and their peeps that must come up with a ruling on how many per person or simply print more.

By the way: how cool was Brad's poster on Sunday? Wasn't too wild about the coloring, but I loved each of his characters. They were all different in some way from their original poster (i.e. the Borgata guy had two fingers held up (probably for night two), the NEOCON guys were in prison stripes and chained the the grim reaper, all the characters were facing to their right, etc.). I also liked how they were holding up banners of the other bands, including Chris Cornell.

The show wasn't too bad either ;)

Limiting it to 2 posters purchased at one time more than likely meets our goal of increasing the number of people that can purchase posters at a show, and it's simple for the merch tables to enforce. If the poster is in demand at the show, the lines are long and the flippers won't get back through the line too many times.

I say limit of 1, but print a gob. Put the leftovers for sale here.
What about poster wristbands? They did that in 08. You got in the poster line, got your bracelet and that was good for a poster, or maybe 2 I don't remember. They had a designated time to come back for the posters.

Let the artists deal the s/n ones, if that isn't already the case.
