If you don't like the rarities or Temple of the Dog you have issues.
You can go to any other PJ show and hear all the repeative sing alongs that night 2 had.

I was there. I like CC. I love the TOTD stuff. You are out of our mind if you thought the band, Eddie, Chris had better energy on night 1. It wasn't even close. Has nothing to do with sing alongs, hits, rarities... they had "IT" on Sunday night!9.29.96, 8.28.98, 9.1.00, 7.5.03, 9.30.05, 6.1.06, 6.19.08, 6.20.08, 6.24.08, 10.27.09, 10.28.09, 10.30.09, 5.20.10, 9.3.11, 9.4.11, 9.2.12, 7.19.13...

+1 Arms Aloft might have been the worst number 2 song the band could have chosen to kickoff the weekend of weekends. I can pretty much sing along with any PJ song but when I go to a show I want everyone rocking out and having a great time. Maybe 20% of the people at night 1 even knew what song they were playing let alone sing along to it. That song killed the night and mood in IMO.0 -
If I was there then I would have loved both night....but Night 1 seemed better in a way because I loved all the rare songs they played...not saying I wouldn't love night 2 because I would with all the sing alongs and hit but Night 1 looked better Setlist wise for me...Tres Mts- 3/16/2011
Eddie Vedder- 7/16/11
Brad- 4/21/12 (RSD Performance), 4/27/12, 8/10/12
Flight To Mars- 5/23/12
RNDM- 11/27/12
PEARL JAM- 12/6/13 I have finally seen Pearl Jam live!0 -

This.
Night 1 was cool and all w/ the rarities and what not, but no flow, man. I just couldn't stay fired up.
Night 2 punched my balls in... the first set (at least the first 3/4 of it) was incredible. Lots of energy, lots of awesomeness... Night 2 wins.- 98 Pgh

I also thought night 1's setlist kicked night 2's ass!
but the weekend as a whole could never be overshadowed by anything...it was so much fucking fun i wish we all did it once a year!!0 -
I don't get the rarities for the sake or rarities? So help help or Education are better songs than Alive, black or Evenflow? Maybe I am crazy but I love hearing the songs that are the reason I loved this band in the 1st place.0

Night 2 was better for me. A lot of it has to do with which night you're in the pavilion. Being down close is just better than being on the lawn (duh). You're more engaged down there. You can see more. You can feel more. It was louder than all hell down there.
That said, this might be the first thread in message board history to call a setlist that includes Wash, No Way, Satan's Bed, Habit, Pilate "vanilla."everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -

The crowd was so pumped after Release was played and Arms Aloft just killed the momentum. The band got it back later i the show.
The energy at Alpine on night 2 was off the charts.0 -
Don't see the hate for Arms Aloft or Public Image for that matter.... :?

I agree with this. Especially at an event like this, I WANT to hear the 20-year-old songs. I want to get nostalgic and think things like "When Stone wrote the riff for Alive in his basement, did he ever envision he'd be playing it 20 years later, in front of 37,000 people who lose their fucking minds at the first note?"
What was awesome about this weekend is, you got to hear the standards, but you also got the rarities. It was the best of both worlds. I don't see how people could complain about it, except people will complain about anything.everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -

I like Arms Aloft but agree it was an odd choice for the second song of PJ20. That said, nothing is more Pearl Jam than an unconventional setlist.
First song I ever heard live, back in 1995, was a Neil Young song. These guys march to a different beat, for sure.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

No hate for Arms ALoft. Just not the right place for that song IMO. I actually like it alot, but when five people to my left and five people to my right have no clue what is playing, it gets a little boring for me.0 -

You got it - this awesome weekend had something for everyone. Personally, I loved night 1 and thought the energy couldn't be topped. Then, night 2 began!!! I didn't think either night lacked energy, neither was vanilla, etc. However, no disrespect for those who disagree with me - I love a healthy, respectful debate.slightofjeff wrote:marjen wrote:I don't get the rarities for the sake or rarities? Agree 100%. Temple was a great surprise on Saturday night, and Say hello to heaven was the highlight of both nights. Sunday TOTD was just set filler. The rarities were great on Saturday, even though I had heard most of them at least once before. I did hear 2 new songs though (in the moonlight, education). Plus it wasn't so damn cold on Saturday.0
