I would say even Philly 1 & 2 rivaled Alpnie Valley. The first night for Alpine just didn't do it for me and the TOTD stuff was like a "timeout" which just killed the momentum IMO.

I wasn't there, but the TOTD stuff was not too much of a surprise for me. Some liked it, some not.

I thought Temple would play a 45 min set before PJ took the stage. Would this have been better for those that didn't enjoy them so much?

Probably would have been better. I think some members here think I hate TOTD or something. It's not that I hate it, it's just it killed the flow for some, myself included. We all know how Eddie and the band can get that "PJ live ball rolling" if you know what I mean, and these little interludes just killed it.

Even if they played early on in the show(s), it would have been better.

Temple of The Dog should have been slotted in 30 mins before PJ and only listed as a surprise guest on the schedule to leave a level of surprise...I agree..it killed the flow to have Ed leave the stage for 20-30 minutes...Now if they wanted to save Hunger Strike on the last night to do during the PJ set...I would have been 100% fine with that...but the placement of TOTD in the setlist...E-S-P-E-C-I-A-L-L-Y the second night...killed a the flow and a bit of the mood.

The 1st night TOTD performed, even in the spot they did...it was a surprise, it was cool...the 2nd night..it was just bad timing and a let down with the rumors of Neil Young showing up floating around really heavy all weekend...so when Eddie announced Chris, you could feel a "sigh" from the crowd that they were happy...yet really let down a the same time...

  • The bottom line is Cornell sounded just about flawless...making his appearance more than welcomed. The first song they did covering MLB was just plain awesome. The bottom line is many people decided they wouldn't enjoy it if he showed up because they dislike him for many of the questionable things the guy has done over his career blah blah blah.

How about all the collaborations? Again, people at home reading this show on paper and commenting on how this isn't about PJ, too many other guests were taking part. Yea, well, it was better with them taking part...MUCH better. Julian on Not For You and Red Mosquito? Homme coming out for Education? They were little things to dress up PJ's songs and make them have a full complete sound, and you could tell they rehearsed a lot for it. They did NOT, in any way, take the spotlight away from PJ on those songs. Liam Finn was great on Habit and wouldn't have sounded as good without him truthfully.

Why is no one mentioning how much PJ clearly rehearsed for this? There were not even close to as many flubs as there were in Philly and they listened to us.....many of the songs were slowed down!! God, what a treat.

Camping with friends and tailgating is sooo much better than just having multiple nights in a city....can we have a PJ25?

We need to wait for the boots to make a fair comparison, but overall quality and experience? PJ20 wins.

I was at all 4 of these shows and I'd say...

Spectrum 3 seemed better than Alpine 1 but it's hard to say which is better head to head between Spectrum 4 and Alpine 2. Spectrum lasted so long and the atmosphere that night was great but Alpine 2 had a similar atmosphere with everyone joining on stage in RITFW thought that was pretty cool. I love TotD so that may be what put Alpine 2 over the top. It's hard to say.

  • You're comparing to two uncomparable mediums. These two thing are totally in their own universes. You're comparing QB's and WR's.

pj20 was better, and then, it ended.
  • I was at all four shows. I'm from Philly. But PJ20 was way better and way more special.

The people who were not there cannot appreciate the overall experience that was this weekend. Eddie coming out on stage with Glen Hansard on night two. Eddie joining both the Strokes and QOTSA during their sets for amazing collaborations, that "Little Sister" (not sure if that is the name of it) song that Eddie did with QOTSA was absloutley AMAZING. Mike joing Star Anna.... Stone just being a "fan" when Chris Cornell was singing "Call me a Dog"....... the taligating.... the communcal atmosphere.... the rarities of night 1.... thee ACTUAL Temple of the Dog band performing TOTD songs together and then doing a MLB song just gave me chills.. those who think TOTD did too many songs are honestly being spoiled or something and not appreciating this rare and special treat. Chris Cornell said it best when he said "we haven't played these sngs TOGETHER in almost 20 years, and some we've NEVER played TOGETHER live, and it might not ever happen again", that right there the whole you just saw something that has never really happened and might never happen again thing is what cannot be translated and I think even the "complainers" are going to have a better appreciation as time goes by for what they were lucky enough to be a part of..... the version of Who You Are and the Wasted Reprise/Life Wasted of night one were so good I was near in tears (and i don't cry)...... night 2 Even Flow was seriously maybe the best version with the best Mike solo ever.... having literally everyone come out on stage on night 2 for RITFW, that Dhani Harrison kid was just in heaven and I don't know if you noticed but during RITFW encore of night two Mike put his guitar down at one point and let Harrison continue the solo and he was fucking rocking it, Mike also gave his guitar to someone else (roadie maybe?? not sure??) who continued playing as well and it sounded killer.... Liam Finn joing for Habit was epic and was by far the best version of that ever played...... the guys from Mudhoney joining for Sonic Reducer, that was unbelieveable, my buddy normally hates it when they play Sonic Reducer but he said that this version was soo good he might have to rethink it and that they "rocked it" on this night.... I'd also add this last part: Pearl Jam has played what, somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 shows together over the last 20+ years and people are nit picking that the AV shows were not #1 or #2 all time but maybe instead somewhere in the #4 or #5 range.... ummmm come on people get some perspective.... maybe for some folsk individually these shows were not #1 but i can tell you that of my dozen shows (give or take) that the overall experience is #1 in my book and night #2 was the #1 show I have ever attended... even if they were not #1 or #2 in your book you still have to admit they were top 10 all time and top 10 amongst that many shows is pretty fucking special people no matter how you slice it.... honestly I don't know how you can "compare" shows that really have no comparison.......

Temple of the Dog are boring and overrated, thus Spectrum shows win.

And if you didn't get the "vibe" in Philly, you're in serious denial.

I agree 1000%.. Hunger Strike was cool but than 7 other songs with Cornell?? I MUCH preferred to hear 7 other PJ songs..In Hiding, Present Tense, Corduroy, Go, Animal etc..Great time, band sounded great and even had a great time in Wisconsin but now I am thinking I should have picked my original location...Toronto

I agree with this, BUT how often am I going to see a TOD reunion? Prob never, but I will get those other awesome songs again at regular PJ show!
