Other than set length, what would've been a satisfactory set? You knew they wouldn't play for way more than 2 and a half hours, that the venue was old and that there would be a few guests. So why complain? I can hardly see how night 1 could have been any better setlist wise. If you complain on the energy level, than may be you're part of the reason why.

Are you really surprised?? It's what people around here do best, a good number of fans never seem to be satisfied with what Pearl Jam gives us....
  • lol exactly, pearl jam fans, or alot of them are the most spoiled, whiny, brat fans i have ever seen LOL

only a few of us really get it, most are what i described above, its mainly the younger fans i assume, cause back in late 90s, up til prob the 03 tour it was not like this, not anywhere near this bad,

anyway i am going to guess people are mad about the Temple of the Dog stuff LOL celebrating 20 years of the band, thats prob the most memorable thing they could do, and people will complain

For the record i did not attend,
"no more crowbars to my head"
  • There are a ton of people (me) that would have done anything to be there but couldn't make it for one reason or another. Maybe some people are taking the band and their shows for granted, sad. I cannot wait to see them in Calgary, if the set is 15songs it will still be amazing.

Back in my day blah blah blah. Age has nothing to do with it. Especially when you don't give a reference point for what you consider younger. I'm 32. To me younger are people in their early 20s. And for the record, I've met plenty of teens and twenty-somethings at PJ shows that have much more appreciation for the band than some 40 or 50 year olds that claim to have been fans from day one

I've never seen PJ live and may never be able to due to my having hyperacusis but you won't hear me complain. No way! I can still watch their DVDs and listen to their records any time. These guys have given us all so much. I can't believe anyone would have complaints about this band- that is unfathomable to me.

The only complaint I had about last night was what ever that tent thing was right in front of the lawn in the center. Was that where the tenclub lawn seats were? Hopefully it won't be there tonight. Other than that I thought it was a great show. Finally got to see who you are and I never got to see soundgarden to seeing cornell doing temple stuff was very cool.

+1. Apart from the Calgary bit.

What I don't understand is, people on this board must really like Pearl Jam otherwise why join the fan club? So why fucking complain about seeing them live?!?!? Pearl Jam aren't just about Even Flow, Alive, Given To Fly, Black, Daughter etc etc. They are about every song they've ever released or played live. Anyone on this board who goes to a show must surely understand that. So you go to a show and whether or not they play all the songs you wanted to hear you come out of the show happy because you've just seen your favourite band play. That's what it is for me anyway.

Despite knowing I couldn't afford PJ20, I'm still gutted I'm not there. So it annoys me greatly people who attended last night and then come on here saying it was an awful show and awful setlist. Whoever does that isnt a fan in my opinion.

Fuck, I'd be happy to see the band play Unthought Known for 2 hours straight and I hate that song :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Frankly, I think a lot of people are misinterpreting observations and opinions as "complaints." I think there are about 50 times more people complaining about the complainers than there were actual complainers to begin with. Can't we let this drop?

(Although, does this make me a complainer about people complaining about complainers? A vicious circle, that.)

Of course this will be a post complaining about posts regarding complains about complainers who are complaining about complainers regarding last night shows ;)

(I hope you can still follow me, I almost couldn't when I wrote that damn sentence, to be honest, and I am of course horsing around with you...)

One more comment re. the show length, and then I will let it drop - as the poster above suggests, for I think he/she is right - if you think 2,5 hours or 2.15 minutes isn't enough; I would recommend to take a very close look at the festival show last year in the Netherlands. At that show they were forced to stop after 1 hour and 30 minutes (to great dismay of Eddie Vedder).

And this again is nothing compared to Lemonheads who played a full 40 minutes without encores... (The shortest concert I ever went to.)

Just to put things in perspective...

Absolutely NO complaints for either nights' setlist! My wife attended her first-ever PJ show on Saturday, and she said, "I can't even comprehend how much I should be appreciating tonight's show since this is my first." That was my thought, as I've been catching shows since '96 and have been waiting for Red Mosquito since then and No Way since '98!

Sure wish we'd all be a bit better to each other, though. Look, the last two shows were epic...to me. If they weren't epic to you, it doesn't bother me.

Also wanted to point out that I met some kickass fans from Canada who've only been following PJ for past 4-6 years, and they have as much appreciation for this great band as I. All is not lost on our youth!

+1. I expressed my views about the show from night 1 and I've been called everything from a "loser", other members "feel sorry for me", "I didn't deserve to be there", I'm "not a real fan", etc. It's funny how all of these members saying this stuff preach about the community and embracing the music and other members feelings but somehow when members such as myself express they didn't like something we are called elitist and spoiled. I can't belive just the ignorant and asshole posts in this thread alone of other members saying "if you didn't like night 1, fuck you!" and thats a straight quote right there. Really buddy?

I'll start by saying I loved Night 1, and the fact that you don't share my opinion is, well, what it is. I do agree with you that the @$$hole comments from 10C members is bothersome. Example: took my two sons to the show (age 11 & 9), and I understand that my $ only entitles me to enter the gate and hear the show. I guess I assumed that sitting with other 10C members might earn me and my boys some courtesy...guess we know what happens when we assume. An obliterated 10C member nearly steps on my son as he (the other guy) is pissing...in the 10C lawn seats. Me: "You mind not stepping on my son?" Him: "Maybe you shouldn't bring your son to a Pearl Jam concert."

Yup, me and my son trying to enjoy a concert is the problem...not the guy who can't handle is alcohol and is entitled to piss, stand, step etc. wherever he pleases. Yup, my son is the @$$hole.

Having said that, I know I'm gonna see all sorts of stuff at a concert. Just wish we as 10C members could be better to each other and contain what we're doing to our own space. Drink, smoke, swear, do whatever you like - I'll use them as teaching moments. Just please don't impose your choices - and opinions - on the rest of us.

And to the 99.9% of the rest of you that we met this weekend - you guys are awesome! Thanks for being great concert neighbors!

I think what most people reacted to was the fact that many couldn´t be there and that outsiders, like myself, were taken in by the setlist. Another thing might be that many of the opinions and "observations" (which in my opinion is a wrong terminology for it indicates an objectivity that isn't there) that were expressed, weren't expressed as "opinions", but as given "facts". Posts like; "I have seen 40+ concerts, so *I know* what *I am* talking about and this concert sucked bricks through a straw" doesn't necessarily help. Both sides as a matter of fact - the above mentioned stance and insults - don't add anything to a healthy debate.

@Black73; truly shocked, but strangely not surprised. I hope that you told your children that this specific guy was an example on what not to follow...

DS11119: This board has become venomous, no? Sorry you and I had a different night 1 experience, but neither of us is wrong. Likewise, neither of us deserves to be called names. Yesterday had a frequent poster call me an idiot regarding merch confusion I had. Accused me of being "....stupid and overzealous" and claimed I was trying to goad him into a war of words...after he called me an idiot.

fortyshades: both my sons, my wife and I met so many cool people this past weekend that we all knew this guy was the exception. Sadly, the exception is becoming a little too common for my taste. I knew we'd encounter some teaching moments (this was one of them), just didn't think having others' opinions thrust upon me was going to be so commonplace.
