In the first seven years of his career -- before he began his military service in World War II -- DiMaggio had a total of 196 strikeouts.

I'm still amazed at that stat. During the streak, he only struck out 5 times. How many does Uggla have now?

during the streak, by my count, 27, including back to back games with 3k's

Even if he went 1-for-5 in 56 straight games, it would still be a noteworthy accomplishment just because of the other good hitters in the Hall of Fame besides DiMaggio who haven't been able to do it.
