Actor, voice over artist and part-time Tea Party gadfly, D.C. Douglas, released a video over the weekend thanking the Tea Party for its contributions to the debt ceiling debate. Immediately upon it's release, his video took on even greater meaning.

Though the video's release occurred at roughly the same time that Standard & Poor's credit downgrade for the US became official - it was mere coincidence. The Twitterverse, however, picked up on the video's sentiment and began forwarding it to friends as way of expressing their displeasure regarding the Tea Party's hand in the credit downgrade.

It's funny to think that people believe that the Tea Party...a relatively new group...really is the reason for the economic issues. Laughable really.

you gotta admit - they played a key role in the debt negotiations ... if congress got a deal done earlier and showed a capacity to work together ... there may not have been a downgrade ...

If it was simply the timing of the deal that lead to a downgrade, then the downgrade is laughable....

It's time for a change, and not this bs Obama change.

Tea Baggers are like the bratty cry baby bullies in 3rd grade who start fights and then burst into tears when they get caught by the teacher.

Yes. This is the tea party's fault. Their "my way or the highway" tactics are what caused this problem. Anyone who's paid attention can see that.

That's funny.... Hardcore conservatives claim the tea party started gaining steam during Bush's out of control spending. They use that as their response when people ask

Hey, where the fuck were you guys when Bush turned this country upside down with his spending? So they don't look like they just don't like Obama for the obvious reasons

Bush had huge surpluses , Obama was handed a beat up Buick

Easy to level the whole financial system, tough to stabilize it and make it grow

People act like we are the only ones going through shit, I think Americans are freaking out more cause we are not use to this

...is exactly what we expected and exactly what we got from the Tea Party.
  • Republicans are bending to the wishes of the tea baggers. Both these parties are hate filled with a religious agenda. You can't pray for a better economy, pray away global warming and think these are solutions. They do not believe in equality for all and fail to see the plight of millions of Americans. If you are rich and could care less about anyone else in the world besides yourself then this is the party for you!

TEABAGGER is a derogatory term used to describe millions of people who have different opinions than yours.

Read the posting guidelines before classifying a whole group of people in a deragatory manner.

You've been reported. Enough of this biased shit.

Anyone who thinks the Tea Party is to blame for the debt problem is a partisan idiot.

Once again, it's Keynesian economics that's to blame for the debt problem. To be fair to Democrats, however, Keynesian economics does not discriminate by party-line. For instance, it could be easily argued that Bush was a Keynesian. And it would take little arguing to say a majority of Republicans have been in one way or another Keynesian.

The irony, of course, is that the one political force trying to oust Keynesian economic ideology is, in fact, the Tea Party or like-minded individuals. Yet, ignorant people are blaming them.

    It's pretty funny, actually.

If anyone thinks this downgrade was caused by the tea party they are kidding themselves, and just cannot bring themselves to blame the people who let this crap happen. Big spending liberals AND republicans who spent and spent with no regard for actual revenue receipts. They are to blame...people like Boehner, Pelosi, Reid, Obama, they are to blame...the tea party finally said enough is enough...and the DNC and the rest will spin it so the tea party is to blame when it is all the big spenders who have been in washington for DECADES that are to blame. Or should we just go into debt forever, consistently strapping the poor and middle class with dollars that are worth less and less because of poor fiscal policy?

As I recall, dems did try to negotiate about the whole plan. Repubs werent willing to be realistic or come to the table in good faith.

So if you HAVE the power to "ram it down the countries throat" what do you do when the other side is unwilling to work WITH you on an issue?

    Oh please.

The members of the Tea Party were the one who originally called themselves "tea baggers" and thought they were clever until it was pointed out what "tea bagging" means.

Then they suddenly burst into tears and claimed that it was those mean liberals with their fancy public school high school diplomas and grasp of grammar and spelling that made up the term to denigrate them.

But the tea ba...er... tea people are known for their revisionist history. Check out the Wikipedia page for Paul Revere for more.

tea party refusal to negotiate led directly to the crappy deficit bill we got. there is no way around it. boehner was going to settle for something to just raise the ceiling and tackle the deficit and spending later but cantor and the tea party caucus would not allow it.

in hindsight, obama should have stood on principle and vetoed this if is was not what he wanted. s&p said they were going to downgrade us anyway due in part to partisanship fueled on all sides, but mainly by the extreme righties in the tea party...
